Imagine a place where the only sounds are turquoise waters lapping against white sand and palm fronds rustling in the soft sea breeze. Welcome to Aitutaki Lagoon Private Island Resort, the Cook Islands' only private island sanctuary—an adults-only retreat where relaxed luxury means beautiful nature, genuine island culture, and the increasingly rare gift of true seclusion.
Your journey begins with a two-minute private ferry crossing to Motu Akitua, where swaying palms frame traditional Polynesian architecture and the lagoon stretches endlessly in shades of blue so vivid, legend says the colour blue and all its hues was invented here. Thatched-roof bungalows—including the Cook Islands’ only Overwater accommodations—offer private decks, open-air showers, and majestic views where sunsets ignite the horizon in coral and gold.
This is your private island. Your endless lagoon. Your ultimate escape.
Every experience is curated for two: take a languid dip in the bluest of blue lagoons, surrender to spa rituals scented with coconut and frangipani, kayak to deserted motus for a champagne picnic, snorkel among colourful tropical fishes, or simply sway together in a hammock as the day melts away. Dining here celebrates the ocean's bounty and local flavours, served beneath a velvet sky alive with stars.
The resort is exclusively yours—no day visitors, no cruise ship crowds, just privileged access to one of Earth's last unspoiled paradises. Consistently ranked #1 on Aitutaki by Tripadvisor, this is where the world's most discerning travellers come not just to visit, but to be transformed.
Leave renewed. Leave restored. Leave forever connected to the soul-deep beauty of Aitutaki.

What we love about this stay
Book an overwater bungalow — specifically one facing west. The glass floor panels are mesmerizing, but it's the sunset from your private deck that will wreck you: the lagoon turns molten gold around five-thirty, and you're watching it alone, feet dangling above the reef. At dinner, ask for a table at the far edge of the restaurant, closest to the water — the interior tables lose the effect entirely. Don't over-schedule yourself with excursions; the one non-negotiable is a morning kayak to a sandbar at low tide, when the lagoon goes so shallow it's barely ankle-deep for hundreds of meters. Bring reef shoes and a mask — the coral gardens en route are the real show. Aitutaki rewards those who surrender to its tempo completely.

This was our first time to the Cook Islands and we just loved our stay at the Aitutaki Lagoon Private Island Resort. We stayed in an over water bungalow and atmosphere was just wonderful. Staff and service were excellent - especially Luke, our attentive server at the restaurant. Activities provided were fun and entertaining. Would recommend to everyone.

Perfect holiday, stunning location, lovely staff. This hotel has everything you need. From the moment you land, everything is taken care of. No arranging transport or carrying luggage… they take over and the relaxing starts straight away. Every room has snorkelling equipment, fins, reef shoes, stand up paddle board, kayak, bikes. These items are also available around the island. There is way more equipment than guests. There are hammocks and sun loungers galore and despite the resort being full, you rarely see anyone apart from at breakfast and dinner. The staff are all lovely and learned our names on the first day. Stand outs were Luke, Nocy, Jerry, Mele and the always sunny and smiley Kula. There are activities every day but you can also just swim and sit around the lagoon which no photo can do justice to. The food was excellent and there was a lot of choice and considering how far Aitutaki is from anywhere, the prices are very reasonable. Full credit to the kitchen staff. The outdoor showers are a treat and all the bathroom products smell like a tropical heaven. There are two pools, one freshwater and one salt water but if you decide to swim in either, you will probably have it to yourself because the lagoon is so clean and clear and warm you won’t want to be anywhere else. I can’t wait to return and this experience will be a benchmark for all other island holidays. Worst part was leaving 😢

Aitutaki is an amazingly beautiful island . Uncrowded, laid back and brilliant blue warm water. Privately island resort was fantastic. Relaxed luxury. Amazing over the water bungalow. I loved just stepping off the back deck into pristine water. Great food - breakfast, lunch and dinner . All the staff were always willing and ready to help . Especially Luke , who too extra special care of our group of 8 at all our meals . He remembered all our names after the first day. Also special mention of Platinum cruises and our skipper for the day - Me. There is no better way to see the lagoon ! Can’t wait to come back

Amazing time at the resort. The staff - Nocy, Luke, Jerry, Mere, Pali, Mariana, and the rest of the team truly made our holiday unforgettable. We stayed in a deluxe bungalow and enjoyed the location with swimming, snorkeling and kayaking. We also enjoyed taking the bikes out and circled the island one day. The food was tasty and the cocktails were strong. We can’t wait to come back!!!
