The road to Aman Rosa Alpina narrows through the village of San Cassiano, where timber chalets line quiet streets and the pale limestone towers of the Dolomites rise in every direction. The hotel occupies a position that feels both intimate and commanding, set within a landscape that UNESCO has designated a World Heritage Site. The original Rosa Alpina has stood here for decades, a beloved family-run retreat in the Ladin-speaking corner of South Tyrol. Under the Aman stewardship, the property has been reimagined with the group's characteristic restraint, preserving the warmth of its alpine heritage while introducing a pared-back sophistication that lets the mountains remain the dominant presence.
Accommodations draw from both the original structure and thoughtfully designed additions, with rooms and suites finished in local spruce and stone. Many open onto private balconies facing the Dolomite peaks, and interiors balance traditional Tyrolean craftsmanship with Aman's signature minimalism. The sense of scale is deliberately modest. This is not a grand mountain palace but a refined alpine house, where corridors are quiet and the atmosphere favors contemplation over spectacle. Suites offer generous living spaces, deep soaking tubs, and fireplaces that anchor the rooms in a feeling of genuine mountain dwelling.
Dining at Aman Rosa Alpina is shaped by the culinary traditions of the surrounding valleys. The property's restaurant, St. Hubertus, has long been recognized as one of Italy's most distinguished mountain dining rooms, offering a menu rooted in Alpine ingredients and Ladin heritage. Beyond this, more casual options allow guests to settle into the rhythms of long lunches and unhurried evenings. The wine program reflects the exceptional breadth of northern Italian viticulture, with particular attention to Alto Adige producers. Throughout the property, meals feel connected to the land and the season in ways that go well beyond sourcing language.
The Aman Spa occupies a serene lower level, offering an indoor swimming pool, treatment rooms, a Finnish sauna, steam bath, and relaxation areas that look out toward the surrounding forest and peaks. Wellness here is influenced by both Aman's holistic traditions and the Alpine spa culture that has long defined this region. In winter, the property sits within the Dolomiti Superski network, giving guests access to some of Europe's most dramatic skiing. Summer opens the landscape to hiking, cycling, and via ferrata routes that trace the ridgelines above. The hotel arranges guided excursions and can connect guests with the full range of mountain experiences, from gentle meadow walks to serious summit approaches.
What lingers at Aman Rosa Alpina is the convergence of two distinct philosophies of hospitality. The Ladin tradition of welcoming travelers into mountain homes, and Aman's instinct to distill a place to its most essential beauty. The result is a property where the pace slows to match the landscape, where evenings settle early and mornings begin with the particular quality of light that only high alpine valleys produce. You leave not with the memory of grandeur, but with the quiet recall of stone and timber, of peaks turning rose-gold at dusk, of a stillness that felt less like absence and more like arrival.

What we love about this stay
What stays with you here isn't the grandeur but the quietness of it — the way earth-toned fabrics and handcrafted wood furnishings feel less like a design choice and more like the mountains simply continued indoors. San Cassiano is a village that doesn't perform for visitors, and Hotel Diamant mirrors that restraint. The wellness space, built with stone and wood, doesn't try to compete with the Dolomites outside but rather folds into them. Evenings have a particular pull: the terrace delivers a night sky so startlingly close it shifts your sense of scale entirely. And the kitchen leans into regional tradition rather than spectacle, which feels right for a place this rooted. It's the kind of property where you arrive planning adventures and find yourself perfectly content doing almost nothing at all.

An exceptional skiing holiday in an extraordinary natural landscape. Excellent saunas, pool and spa areas. I really liked the Gala dinner at the hotel restaurant, all the dishes on the menu were excellent, and the abundance, presentation and choice of desserts were simply amazing. Very nice staff at the reception, solving problems, not creating them. Excellent shuttle service to and from the ski lift.
