There is a particular kind of arrival that only a mid-century building in Beverly Hills can offer. You step off Canon Drive and through a courtyard entrance, and the city recedes almost immediately. The Avalon Hotel Beverly Hills occupies a storied 1949 apartment building once home to Hollywood icons, its clean architectural lines and vintage California character preserved with an eye toward design-forward hospitality. The property feels like a private club rediscovered, where classic bones have been dressed in bold color, curated furnishings, and the kind of confident style that resists trends altogether.
The rooms and suites carry that same spirit. Interiors are bright and graphic, mixing mid-century silhouettes with modern comforts across a range of accommodations that include studio-style rooms, one-bedroom suites, and larger configurations suited to extended stays. Many feature kitchenettes or full kitchens, a nod to the building's residential origins. The effect is less conventional hotel room, more personal apartment in one of the most coveted zip codes in Los Angeles. Retro touches sit alongside updated amenities without feeling like pastiche.
The courtyard pool is the social and aesthetic center of the property. Lined with cabanas and yellow-striped chaise lounges, it has the atmosphere of a private Palm Springs retreat transplanted into the city. Oliverio, the on-site Italian restaurant, sits just off the pool deck, serving rustic Italian dishes in a setting that feels at once relaxed and occasion-worthy. Whether you are having a poolside lunch or a candlelit dinner, the restaurant anchors the property's social life with warmth and flavor. A fitness center rounds out the on-site offerings, and the hotel's scale keeps everything feeling intimate and unhurried.
Beverly Hills unfolds just beyond the front door. Rodeo Drive is a short walk away, and the broader landscape of West Hollywood, Century City, and the cultural corridors of the Westside are easily within reach. The neighborhood's mix of world-class shopping, acclaimed dining, and gallery culture provides texture well beyond the property's walls, yet the Avalon never feels like merely a launching pad. Its personality is too fully formed for that.
What lingers is the rhythm of the place. The Avalon Hotel Beverly Hills operates at a frequency that is distinctly its own, part vintage Hollywood ease, part design hotel confidence. It is a property that rewards those who appreciate character over convention, where the poolside afternoon stretches long and the evening arrives without urgency.

What we love about this stay
There's a particular kind of confidence in a hotel that leans into its era rather than chasing the moment, and this Beverly Hills boutique property does exactly that. The mid-century bones are real here — you feel it in the boomerang-shaped pool, in the vintage furnishings at Viviane, in a design sensibility that treats the 1950s and '60s not as nostalgic costume but as a living aesthetic worth preserving. It's intimate in scale, which matters: the kind of place where the pool area doubles as the social center and the restaurant overlooks it, blurring the line between staying and lingering. Cocktails nod to the same era the architecture does, which feels earned rather than gimmicky. It suits the traveler who wants Beverly Hills without the performative grandeur — someone drawn to personality over size, atmosphere over spectacle.

This is a boutique hotel in Beverly Hills, within walking distance of Rodeo Drive. The rooms are very spacious and immaculately kept. There is a small but fully equipped gym, and the outdoor pool area is very inviting. The food was so good that we ate most of our meals around the pool. While not inexpensive, we found the food comparable to anywhere outside the hotel along Beverly Drive. Everyone, front desk staff, wait staff, valet staff, is very friendly and accommodating. We were also pleasantly surprised about the price; we have paid more for less in Canada! So I would recommend the Avalon for value alone. But it offers that and more. I would highly recommend this hotel and look forward to returning soon.

Very nice, cool boutique spot that’s stylish but not irritatingly so. Not scenery; everyone just laid back but super attentive. The pricing is fair; the staff and manager Marty is great….this is really the only place of its kind in Beverly Hills.
