The road narrows before it arrives. Past Castelnuovo Berardenga, past the last of the signposted towns, the landscape opens into a rolling expanse of vineyards and olive groves before closing again around a cluster of ancient stone buildings. Borgo San Felice is not a hotel built to resemble a village. It is a village, a centuries-old Tuscan borgo restored with extraordinary care and turned into a place where guests sleep in former farmhouses, dine in converted cellars, and walk cobblestone paths that have existed since the medieval era. The chapel still stands at its center. The cypress trees have been here far longer than any of us.
Accommodations are spread across the hamlet's original structures, each room and suite distinct in layout and character, shaped by thick stone walls, terracotta floors, wooden beams, and windows that frame the surrounding hills. Some overlook the estate's vineyards, others the village's internal courtyards or the wider Chianti countryside. The restoration honors the architecture rather than imposing uniformity on it. A pool sits on the edge of the borgo, its terrace offering an uninterrupted view across the valley. Nearby, the spa draws on the quietude of the setting, with treatment rooms designed for unhurried rituals. Tennis courts and a fitness area round out the physical offerings, though the estate's walking and cycling paths through vineyard-covered hills may prove more compelling.
Dining at Borgo San Felice is anchored by Il Poggio Rosso, the property's fine dining restaurant, which holds a Michelin star and serves a refined interpretation of Tuscan cuisine rooted in seasonal, local ingredients. The experience is intimate, set within the borgo's restored spaces, and the wine list naturally draws from the estate's own production. Borgo San Felice is, after all, a working wine estate within the Chianti Classico appellation, producing wines under its own label. A more casual dining option offers simpler regional plates for guests seeking something lighter, and the bar provides a place to settle into an evening with a glass of the estate's own vintages. The cooking school and wine tastings connect guests directly to the agricultural life that still defines this landscape.
The surrounding Chianti Classico region unfolds in every direction. Siena lies a short drive to the west, its Piazza del Campo and Gothic cathedral among Tuscany's most iconic landmarks. The medieval towers of San Gimignano, the thermal baths of Rapolano, and the quieter hill towns of the Crete Senesi are all within reach. But the borgo itself, with its 140 hectares of vineyards and olive groves, contains its own world. Guests often find that the impulse to explore gives way to the slower rhythm of the estate, mornings by the pool, afternoons among the vines, evenings in the courtyard as the light turns golden and the stone walls hold the warmth of the day. Borgo San Felice does not perform Tuscany. It simply is Tuscany, lived in rather than observed.

What we love about this stay
What gets you here isn't the idea of a luxury hotel — it's the pull of an actual village, centuries-old stone and cobblestone paths that happen to hold beautifully appointed rooms scented with lavender from the gardens. Borgo San Felice doesn't perform Tuscany for you; it simply is Tuscany, set deep in the Chianti vineyards of Castelnuovo Berardenga where the landscape does most of the talking. The antique decor feels earned rather than curated, and the two restaurants split the difference nicely between refined and rooted — one leaning into gourmet finesse, the other offering something more familiar with a modern edge. It's the kind of place that rewards those who want immersion over spectacle, where a bike ride through the surrounding vineyards tells you more about the region than any guided tour could.
