There are few places left in the world that feel truly undiscovered. Casa Cayuco Eco-Adventure Lodge, tucked along the pristine shoreline of Isla Bastimentos in Panama’s Bocas del Toro Archipelago, is one of them. Accessible only by boat, the lodge offers modern comforts in a pristine tropical paradise: rhythmic Caribbean swells, whispering palms, and a stillness that lingers long after you leave.
Your arrival is cinematic: turquoise waters lapping at the dock, vibrant coral gardens visible beneath the hull, and a warm welcome from our lodge hosts—on-site stewards who look after your stay. Each of the beachfront or jungle-framed cabanas exudes organic elegance—crafted with local hardwoods, woven thatch, and a reverence for minimal impact. Estrella de Mar, our Tropical Villa, has A/C; all other accommodations are open-air by design, cooled by steady sea breezes and the sounds of the coast.
Hammocks sway beside driftwood decks, inviting you to rediscover what it means to be still. Dining at Casa Cayuco is a highlight in itself. Meals are communal, curated daily from local ingredients—line-caught fish, island-grown plantains, and vibrant tropical fruits—served with stories and starlight.
As you dine at long wooden tables, you may find yourself in conversation with guests from around the world, all drawn here by the same quiet longing for authenticity and connection. But this isn’t just an idyllic escape; it’s a model of sustainable hospitality. Solar power fuels the property, rainwater is harvested and purified on-site, and the team actively partners with the local Ngäbe-Buglé community through education, conservation, and cultural exchange initiatives.
Days at Casa Cayuco can be as tranquil or active as you wish: snorkel vibrant reefs, kayak through mangroves, hike to hidden bat caves, or simply read beneath the palms with a fresh coconut in hand. What makes Casa Cayuco Eco-Adventure Lodge unforgettable isn’t its remoteness—it’s the feeling of being gently, lovingly removed from everything that doesn’t matter. It’s a place where comfort is measured not by excess, but by intention.
Here, you’ll rediscover the pleasure of simplicity, the richness of connection, and the rare joy of a stay that gives back as much as it offers.

What we love about this stay
Request the overwater cabana farthest from the dock—it's quieter, and the snorkeling right off your ladder is noticeably better than the rooms closer in. Book the mangrove kayak for early morning before the wind picks up; the channels go glassy and you'll see starfish carpeting the shallows. At dinner, sit facing west and don't rush—the sun drops fast here and the light on the water shifts from gold to violet in minutes. Bring reef-safe sunscreen and water shoes with grip; the rocks between the lodge and the beach cove are slick. Skip the group snorkel tour and ask the guides to take you to the quieter reef south of the point instead. Done right, this place delivers the rare thing: genuine remoteness that still feels considered.

If I could give Casa Cayuco a 10 star review I would! We stayed here for four nights over March Break with our 11 and 14 year old boys and had such an amazing stay! We stayed in the Tortuga cabana on the beach for three nights and had an impromptu one-night sleepover in the treetop Mono cabin because it wasn't booked and the kids thought it was the coolest (Thanks again Jack!). Everyone involved with this place is awesome - Jack, Paola, Jose, Josue etc etc etc....We went on multiple excursions (salt creek, sloths, monkeys, mangrove snorkeling, fishing, bat cave) and lazed around in hammocks, played board games, hiked on the paths around the island and drank too many delicious smoothies to count. The kids went fishing with Jose and Josue and caught a boatload of tuna and snapper which we ate for dinner. The food is great and locally sourced. Each night the fishers would arrive at the dock with their catch of the day and the sharks and sting rays would come to feed on the scraps! I would highly recommend Casa Cayuco and hope to come back someday! Kids review: 'best trip ever'

“Can we make this a tradition every year to come here?” is what my daughter asked as we were pulling away in the boat with Jose. My kids are well traveled, including multiple trips to Europe, Caribbean, Costa Rica, all over US, etc and this is at the very top of their list. This is a magical place that is just special and different. We have been in 5 star hotels all over and the service here is just top notch. They know what they are doing to make you feel at ease and just comfortable as can be. They have had the same hard working employees for years. After you take the tour to the village (which we took bags of toys and treats to the kids) you understand the culture better and what goes in to their daily lives. It was so moving and an eye opener for my children to be immersed in their lifestyle just for the short time we had there. It’s just amazing how happy they are and how little they have. Besides the culture of the indigenous people, the sloth tour was fantastic. We got to see several sloths and even a mom and her baby interacting up so close( Better than any sloth or monkey in Costa Rica). Monkey Island was another fabulous adventure. The kids were amazed by the interactions they got to have with the monkeys. Francine, the owner, was so fun and made sure each visitor got some one on one time with the different kinds of monkeys. Her story of how this monkey refuge began is so amazing. We also did a close by island adventure that was fun for the kids to snorkel and see lobster and tons of colorful fish. We stayed three days and could have stayed more. Just relaxing at the resort and laying in the water hammocks/doc netting was just as perfect as the little adventures. My daughter got lucky and made a friend from France that was the same age as her and as soon as she left she begged to have some kids come from the village to play. Somehow someone made this happen and she had so much fun playing and trying to speak her very little Spanish to them. This truly is a magical hidden place. What makes it the very best are the people working there and how awesome they make your stay. The food was super and we loved watching the guys bring in the daily catch and prepare it. We had a special dinner one night on the doc with another great family we met. We spent a little extra and rented the new house so we could have air in our rooms at night. The house is amazing! Lots of room and every room has a nice balcony with comfortable seating. If you want a moving experience with relaxation and something out of the ordinary, do yourself a favor and take your family or significant other here. You will not be disappointed! The resort works with the village where their employees walk from everyday. I had the chance to walk part of the path they travel every day and night to get to work. I’m so thrilled they will be building them a new boardwalk/path to help their commute and make it safe. I can’t wait yo return to see the progress! Thank you Casa Cayuca and all your people for giving us a life changing experience.

Amazing experience with a family feel and lovely staff. The excursions were all worth it. You really get to know your fellow travelers as meals are family style, but the resort also feels private and quiet. Gorgeous views and excellent food. Would 100% recommend.

We had an incredible stay at Casa Cayuco. This is a magical place in a remote paradise, and we loved every moment. The beach is beautiful, the water is warm, the food is fantastic. We loved paddle-boarding, swimming, kayaking and lounging in the nets on the pier. The kids roamed around freely, fished off the pier, swam, built sand castles and completely forgot about their phones and iPads. We booked a few of the activities, and it was the perfect mix between adventures and relaxation. The food was fantastic, and we enjoyed eating with other guests at the communal tables. The Casa Cayuco team genuinely care about their guests, and they go above and beyond, especially for the kids, while at the same to running the resort in a sustainable and responsible way. The place is "off the grid", yet, lacks no luxuries. This was one of our best vacations ever.

We traveled to Casa Cayuco at the beginning of March and had the most amazing time. There were 8 of us total (two couples and four kids ages 7-11) and we stayed in the Estrella de Mar. The house was beautiful with plenty of space for the 8 of us. We were able to walk right out to the ocean or sit on one of the many decks and relax and enjoy the view. It was also great with kids because the ocean was shallow so we were all playing in the ocean all the time. We also enjoyed the different excursions with the highlights being the trip to the Mangroves for Snorkeling and the trip to Monkey Island. The daily food that was provided was also delicious and we really enjoyed getting know other families at the meals. Paula was incredibly welcoming and made us feel right at home. I wish we could go back again tomorrow! You should have no hesitation booking a stay at Casa Cayuco.
