Casa Loma Beach Hotel sits just above the Pacific in Laguna Beach, a mid-century property that feels more like a well-loved beach house than a traditional hotel. The architecture is low-slung and sun-bleached in the best possible way, with whitewashed walls, terra cotta accents, and open-air walkways that frame ocean views at nearly every turn. There is nothing overwrought about the arrival. You step in, catch the salt air, and understand immediately that this is a place designed around proximity to the water and the unhurried rhythm of a Southern California beach town that has managed to hold onto its artistic, independent spirit.
The rooms and suites at Casa Loma lean into coastal simplicity with a sense of warmth that feels personal rather than curated. Many accommodations offer private patios or balconies with direct sightlines to the ocean, and the interiors favor natural textures, soft linens, and a palette that mirrors the sand and sea just steps away. Kitchenettes in select rooms allow for the kind of easy, self-directed stay that suits a long weekend or an extended escape alike. The property's outdoor spaces are its heart. A sun-soaked pool deck overlooks the coastline, offering lounge seating and the kind of unobstructed Pacific views that make it difficult to justify leaving for the day. Common areas throughout the grounds encourage lingering, whether with a morning coffee or a glass of wine as the sun drops behind the water.
Laguna Beach itself is one of the most distinctive stretches of the Orange County coast, known for its art galleries, independent shops, and a series of coves and tide pools that reward those willing to explore on foot. The hotel's location places guests within easy reach of the village's restaurants and cultural landmarks, including the annual Pageant of the Masters and Sawdust Art Festival. The coastline here is not the wide, flat expanse of neighboring beach cities but something more sculpted and intimate, with rocky points and hidden inlets that give each pocket of sand its own character.
Casa Loma Beach Hotel does not compete with the grand resorts further up the coast. Its appeal is something quieter and more specific: the feeling of waking up close enough to the ocean to hear it, spending the day between the pool and the shore, and returning to a room that feels genuinely restful rather than staged. It is the kind of place that rewards simplicity, where the best version of the day involves very little planning and a great deal of sunlight.

What we love about this stay
There's something about a hotel perched on a coastal bluff that feels earned — like the building itself chose to be here, weathering salt air and time. Casa Loma carries a sense of history without being precious about it, blending its storied bones with modern ease in a way that feels lived-in rather than staged. The local art throughout and the artisan details in each suite give it a personality that's distinctly Laguna, not generically coastal. What lingers is the proximity to the Pacific — not as backdrop, but as companion, its sounds threading through your mornings and evenings. The farm-to-table restaurant feels rooted in place too, tied to the agricultural landscape just inland. And those fire pit evenings on the bluff, with the sky doing its thing overhead — that's the kind of quiet spectacle that stays with you longer than anything curated ever could.

Excellent location on the coast with a nice walking path just outside the hotel. Comfortable room with a nice shower. Bathrobes could be more luxe and we miss the in room nespresso machines! Cookies in the evening are fantastic and staff is friendly and helpful.
