The Pacific is right there. Not a distant shimmer beyond rooftops or a suggestion carried on salt air, but a full, unobstructed presence just steps from where you stand. Casa Loma Beach Hotel sits directly above a stretch of Laguna Beach coastline that most visitors never find, perched on a quiet bluff where the town's artistic legacy and its natural beauty converge without ceremony. The property is intimate in scale, a collection of rooms arranged with the easy confidence of a place that has occupied this particular piece of California shore long enough to feel permanent. White walls catch the light. Bougainvillea frames doorways. The architecture carries a mid-century Southern California warmth that feels less designed than simply right for the setting.
Accommodations range from ocean-view rooms to suites, many offering private patios or balconies oriented toward the water. The interiors are clean and sun-filled, with a coastal sensibility that avoids the predictable. Some rooms open directly onto garden paths; others frame the Pacific through generous windows that make the horizon feel close enough to touch. A heated pool and sun deck serve as the hotel's social center, a place where mornings begin slowly and afternoons dissolve into long, unstructured stretches of warmth. Direct beach access means the sand is never more than a short walk away, a rarity along this stretch of coast where public stairways and hidden trails are closely guarded local knowledge.
Laguna Beach itself remains one of the more distinctive towns along the Southern California coastline. The art colony heritage still shapes the character of the village, from the galleries that line Pacific Coast Highway to the seasonal pageants and open-studio events that draw visitors who care about more than surf and sunsets. Restaurants and shops sit within easy walking distance of the hotel, and the town's network of coastal trails connects a series of coves, tide pools, and pocket beaches that reward anyone willing to explore on foot. The surrounding headlands and marine preserves give the landscape a wilder, more dramatic quality than much of the Orange County coast.
What stays with you about Casa Loma Beach Hotel is the proximity. Not just to the ocean, though that closeness defines every hour spent here, but to a version of coastal California that feels increasingly rare. There is no buffer of landscaped grounds or resort infrastructure between you and the shoreline. The waves are the soundtrack. The salt is in the air. The light shifts across your room through the day with the honesty of a place that never needed to manufacture its appeal.

What we love about this stay
There's something about a hotel perched on a coastal bluff that feels earned — like the building itself chose to be here, weathering salt air and time. Casa Loma carries a sense of history without being precious about it, blending its storied bones with modern ease in a way that feels lived-in rather than staged. The local art throughout and the artisan details in each suite give it a personality that's distinctly Laguna, not generically coastal. What lingers is the proximity to the Pacific — not as backdrop, but as companion, its sounds threading through your mornings and evenings. The farm-to-table restaurant feels rooted in place too, tied to the agricultural landscape just inland. And those fire pit evenings on the bluff, with the sky doing its thing overhead — that's the kind of quiet spectacle that stays with you longer than anything curated ever could.

Cannot beat the location! Appetizer boards were freshly, expertly and stylishly prepared. Free underground parking is a real plus. We didn’t use the pool but the rooftop terrace was lovely for sunset and after. Management went out of their way to ensure we were happy.

Excellent location on the coast with a nice walking path just outside the hotel. Comfortable room with a nice shower. Bathrobes could be more luxe and we miss the in room nespresso machines! Cookies in the evening are fantastic and staff is friendly and helpful.
