The approach to Casa Morada is understated in the way the best things in the Keys tend to be. Set on a private, lushly landscaped property along the bay side of Islamorada, this boutique hotel occupies a quiet pocket of the Upper Keys where the water stretches wide and the pace drops to something closer to instinct than intention. With just 16 suites, the property operates at a scale that feels personal, almost residential, a place where the staff knows your name and the grounds never feel crowded.
Each suite is individually designed, drawing on a palette of warm neutrals, natural textures, and clean contemporary lines that let the subtropical setting do most of the talking. Many feature private terraces or balconies oriented toward Florida Bay, and the interiors balance comfort with a sense of restraint that avoids the overwrought tropical aesthetic common across the Keys. You will find thoughtful details throughout: kitchenettes in select suites, outdoor seating areas tucked into garden corners, and a layout that encourages guests to drift between indoor and outdoor space without much deliberation. The property's waterfront is its anchor, with a private dock, kayaks and paddleboards available for guests, and lounge areas positioned along the bay where the light shifts from silver to gold across the afternoon.
Islamorada itself is one of the more compelling stretches of the Florida Keys, known for its world-class fishing, coral reefs, and a culture shaped more by the water than by tourism. Casa Morada sits within easy reach of the region's best snorkeling, diving, and backcountry fishing, while restaurants and galleries along the Overseas Highway offer a low-key but genuine sense of place. The hotel's location on the bay side means sunsets land directly in your sightline, a daily event that guests tend to gather for without anyone needing to announce it.
What Casa Morada leaves you with is not the memory of a grand gesture but rather the accumulated feeling of several unhurried days spent close to the water. Morning coffee on a private terrace. An afternoon paddle across a glassy bay. The particular warmth of a small property where nothing competes for your attention and the landscape provides more than enough.

What we love about this stay
Casa Morada feels like someone's carefully kept secret in Islamorada — intimate enough that the outside world genuinely recedes the moment you pass through the gates. It's not trying to be a grand resort; it's a small, deliberate place where the design leans into its surroundings rather than competing with them, rooms that feel calm and considered against the tropical backdrop. The garden carries that particular Keys scent — salt air tangled with something floral — and the pool sits quietly at the center of it all, unhurried. What stays with you is the atmosphere of a place scaled for stillness, where a well-made cocktail from the bar and an evening spent watching the sky shift colors feel like exactly enough.

Stayed here May 2024 and had the best time! We were so lucky to find a room at this special oasis. The garden view room was delightful. We loved the intimate feel of this resort. The free bikes and kayaks were perfect for us. The location is fantastic with tons of walkable restaurants. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful. The place was very clean. The private island was such a sweet bonus with the sunset bar. We can't wait to visit again!! The landscape designer deserves an award. Although the place isn't huge, the way it's laid out makes it feel extremely private.

This place is a true gem! It feels more like a home away from home than a codo in the Keys. Please don't go there, I don't want it to get too crowded. LOL. The little details seperate Casa from the rest. In the rooms they provide flash lights, plenty of linens, umbrellas, bedside mood lighting, retro fridge, 2 large TV's, nice coffee maker, hair drier and a large shower with pleny of hot water with water pressere! I'm sure I missed a few. The campus is perhaps the most appealing aspect of the stay. The landscape provides privacy through wandering paths of greenery and blossom littered with sitting areas, hammock, benches, etc. Very well done and just plain cool. The best part is the waterfront "island" where you can watch the sunset from the pool or bar where Samantha will whip you up a memorable island cocktail. You might try the special seltzer to enhance the evening glow. Other tidbits: Parking is plentiful. The office can provide additional coffee, paper towels, cold beverages, whatever and a lazy cat that wanders the grounds, rent a cat, free of charge. Yes, Casa is puppy friendly with free poop station and bags. All dogs matter! Adriana, Jackie and Samantha are there to help and are part of what makes Casa "home." All the staff are island friendly and salt of the earth good folks. As mentioned, please do not go to Casa Morada and have a fantastic stay. It will get too crowded.
