The entrance is discreet, the way the best places along this coast tend to be. Casa Yuma sits in Puerto Escondido's Rinconada neighborhood, a low-slung design hotel built with the kind of intention that reveals itself slowly. Concrete, wood, and natural stone form a structure that feels both architectural and organic, shaped by the tropical climate rather than imposed upon it. Open-air corridors channel ocean breezes through the property, and vegetation spills across terraces and stairways, softening every hard edge. The effect on arrival is immediate: a downshift in tempo, a widening of attention.
The rooms at Casa Yuma are minimal but warm, designed around natural materials and a restrained palette that lets the light and landscape do the work. Woven textiles, handcrafted details, and locally sourced furnishings ground each space in the Oaxacan coast without leaning on decoration. Private terraces extend the living space outward, and many rooms frame views of the surrounding tropical canopy or the pool below. The layout of the property encourages a kind of gentle circulation between private quarters and communal spaces, where mornings unfold around the courtyard pool. The pool itself is the social center of Casa Yuma, lined with lounge seating and shaded by palms, positioned to catch the sun for most of the day. It is the kind of place where conversations with strangers happen easily and afternoons lose their shape.
The on-site restaurant serves food rooted in Oaxacan culinary tradition, drawing on the region's extraordinary ingredient culture. Mezcal is a natural companion here, and the bar program reflects that, offering selections that speak to the breadth and complexity of the spirit. Breakfast is a highlight, setting the tone for days that tend to organize themselves around the ocean. Puerto Escondido's renowned surf breaks are minutes away, and Casa Yuma can arrange lessons and board rentals for guests looking to engage with the water. Beyond the waves, the town offers a growing constellation of restaurants, mezcal bars, and open-air markets that reflect the creative energy drawing artists, surfers, and travelers to this stretch of coastline.
What Casa Yuma gets right is proportion. The property is small enough to feel personal but designed with enough sophistication to reward attention. There is no over-programming, no excess. Days here follow a rhythm dictated by sunlight, tide, and appetite. You swim, you eat well, you walk to the beach, you return. The heat of the afternoon gives way to cooler evenings on the terrace, and the sound of the Pacific carries just far enough to remind you where you are. It is a place that asks very little of you and, in that quiet exchange, offers something lasting.

What we love about this stay
Casa Yuma has the quality of a place that doesn't need to announce itself — the Pacific is right there, the sand stretches on, and the property simply settles into that reality rather than competing with it. There's a quietness to the design ethos here, rooms that feel like actual retreats rather than showpieces, opening onto gardens or ocean through private patios that blur the line between indoors and out. The Oaxacan flavors at the restaurant feel rooted and intentional, not performative, and the bar has the kind of easy evening energy that keeps you lingering one cocktail longer than planned. It's a property for people who want Puerto Escondido without the noise — where the salt air does most of the work and the stay itself becomes the memory.

Todo estuvo muy agradable y tranquilo, con buen servicio y atención. Recomiendo que el personal sepa bien cómo manejar el control del aire acondicionado para poder instruir bien al huesped.

We stayed at Casa Yuma for five nights and it was great! Our room was immaculately clean, the interior design was lovely, bed was comfy, and the lighting offered a relaxing atmosphere. The shower was soothing, the room with the toilet was really small, but it wasn't an issue. The hotel is off the beaten path in the best way. It's situated directly on miles of secluded beach. We felt like we were on our own private island at times. The pool and bar/restaurant were wonderful too. The staff was attentive and made sure we were cared for during our whole stay. We would highly recommend renting a car since the hotel is a few miles from any commerce or city life. It took about ten minutes to drive to the tourist traps and was easy to navigate. We only ventured out a few times since the hotel's restaurant was honestly better than any of the food we ate in the city. I've already raved about Casa Yuma to my friends and I would gladly return if we decided to visit Oaxaca again!
