The approach alone tells you something has endured here. Grand Hotel Belvedere rises at the edge of Davos with the kind of commanding, century-old presence that few mountain hotels still carry. Its Belle Époque facade, all pale symmetry and confident proportion, stands against the wide alpine panorama as if it were placed there not merely to shelter guests but to hold its ground against time itself. Inside, the interiors move between heritage and a lighter, more contemporary sensibility introduced under the Beaumier collection, where original architectural details coexist with a warmer, more relaxed design vocabulary. The scale is generous without being imposing. High ceilings, natural light, and a sense of unhurried space define the public areas, while the 126 rooms and suites range from classic mountain elegance to more modern configurations, many offering balconies that frame the Parsenn mountains or the Davos valley below.
Dining at the Belvedere unfolds across several distinct settings. The Belvédère Restaurant offers refined seasonal cuisine rooted in Swiss and international traditions, while the Capricorn serves Italian-inspired dishes in a more intimate, spirited atmosphere. For something casual and convivial, the Belvedere Bar is a natural gathering point for aprés-ski cocktails or late-evening drinks, its character shifting easily from afternoon warmth to evening energy. Breakfast, served in the main restaurant, draws on regional produce and sets the tone for days spent moving between mountain and hotel.
The wellness offering is substantial and deeply considered. The Belvedere Spa spans over 3,000 square meters and includes an indoor pool, outdoor whirlpool, saunas, steam baths, and a range of treatment rooms. A fitness area complements the spa for those inclined toward more active recovery. In summer, the hotel's outdoor pool and sun terrace become the center of gravity, a place where the alpine light and mountain air feel like amenities in their own right. The grounds also include tennis courts and direct access to Davos's network of hiking and biking trails, while winter opens up world-class skiing on the Parsenn and Jakobshorn, with the resort's proximity to the slopes making transitions between mountain and hotel effortless.
Davos itself carries a duality. It is a town of international reputation, known for the World Economic Forum and a long tradition as a health resort, but it is also a working alpine community surrounded by some of the most dramatic high-altitude scenery in Graubünden. The Kirchner Museum, dedicated to the expressionist painter Ernst Ludwig Kirchner who lived and worked here, offers a cultural counterpoint to the outdoor pursuits. Grand Hotel Belvedere sits within walking distance of the town center, close enough for convenience but set apart enough to maintain its own atmosphere. What stays with you is not just the architecture or the views, but the particular rhythm of a hotel that has learned, over more than a century, how to hold both grandeur and ease in the same frame.

What we love about this stay
There's a particular quality to a hotel that sits quietly in a valley rather than perching above it — the Grand Hotel Belvedere feels held by the landscape, not competing with it. Classic European architecture against the Lauterbrunnen valley gives the place a storybook groundedness, the kind of property that's been shaped by its setting rather than imposed on it. Inside, ninety rooms look out at alpine panorama, and the Brasserie Belvedere leans into French cuisine with local wines, which feels like exactly the right register — polished but never fussy. What lingers is the sense of dual rhythm: mornings that pull you toward trails or slopes, evenings that draw you back to pools framed by mountains and a terrace where the light shifts across the peaks. It's a place for people who want both the exertion and the stillness, and who understand that the best mountain hotels let the landscape do most of the talking.

We visited at the end of April when this hotel was still under construction. It was a minor inconvenience as we paid for a “garden view” when the view was a complete construction zone. They did upgrade our room size because of this. That being said, the restaurant was fantastic and the staff were very friendly. We stayed 2 nights and ate at the restaurant both nights. Their buffet breakfast is also amazing. Seeing that the hotel is no longer under construction, I would definitely stay here again.
