The approach tells you everything. Rising from a forested peninsula along Rovinj's southern shore, Grand Park Hotel Rovinj commands a position that places the medieval old town directly across the harbor, its terracotta rooftops and bell tower framed like a painting you never tire of studying. Designed by 3LHD architects, the building is a study in restrained modernism, its long horizontal lines and glass facades deferring to the landscape rather than competing with it. The architecture steps gently down the hillside toward the sea, integrating with the surrounding Monte Mulini forest park in a way that feels inevitable rather than imposed. Inside, interiors by Italian studio Lissoni bring warmth to the contemporary envelope, with natural stone, rich wood tones, and an art collection that threads through lobbies, corridors, and public spaces.
The 209 rooms and suites orient themselves toward the water, many offering unobstructed views of the old town and the Adriatic beyond. Layouts are generous and calm, with floor-to-ceiling windows that blur the boundary between interior and coastline. For guests seeking something more expansive, the presidential suites deliver sprawling terraces and living spaces scaled for genuine comfort rather than theatrical effect. Across the property, the design philosophy remains consistent: materials are honest, proportions are considered, and the Adriatic light is treated as a defining architectural element.
Dining at Grand Park Hotel Rovinj spans several distinct experiences. Cap Aureo, the hotel's fine dining restaurant, presents Istrian cuisine through a refined contemporary lens, drawing on the region's extraordinary larder of truffles, olive oil, and Adriatic seafood. Laurel offers a more relaxed but equally considered approach to Mediterranean cooking, while the hotel's bars and lounges provide settings that shift in character from afternoon aperitivo to late evening. The Albaro Wellness and Spa occupies a generous footprint within the property, with an indoor pool, treatment rooms, saunas, and a fitness center that together create a comprehensive wellness program. Outside, the outdoor pool terrace descends toward the waterfront, and a private beach area provides direct access to the crystalline Adriatic.
Rovinj itself is one of the most compelling small towns on the Mediterranean, an Istrian fishing port whose Venetian architecture and cobblestone lanes have attracted artists and travelers for generations. The old town is a short walk or water taxi from the hotel, its narrow streets opening onto harbor-side restaurants and galleries. The surrounding countryside offers its own pleasures: hilltop villages, family-run wineries, and truffle-hunting excursions through ancient oak forests. Yet the particular achievement of Grand Park Hotel Rovinj is that it gives you both proximity and remove. You are close enough to wander the old town on a whim, yet the forested grounds and the unhurried rhythm of the property make departure feel entirely optional. What stays with you is not any single detail but the layered quality of the days here, the way mornings at the spa give way to long lunches, afternoon swims, and evenings watching the light shift across the harbor as the old town glows amber and then fades to silhouette.

What we love about this stay
What strikes you first is the architecture — modern but not cold, shaped by natural elements that feel genuinely connected to the Istrian coast rather than imposed upon it. Grand Park Hotel Rovinj sits right in the pulse of the town, yet the rooms, with their clean contemporary lines and private balconies facing the marina, create a stillness that feels earned, not manufactured. There's something about watching sailboats from your own quiet perch that recalibrates your sense of time. The Istrian kitchen here takes the region's famous truffles and Adriatic seafood seriously, and the food reads as place-specific rather than generically luxurious. Rovinj itself — the espresso-scented streets, the local art, the cobblestones of Carrera Street just steps away — seeps into the stay in a way that makes the hotel feel less like a destination and more like a point of entry into something larger.

We so enjoyed our stay at Grand Hotel Rovinj. It’s a very special hotel and really such a pleasure to be there. The hotel is next to a lovely pine filled park where you can cycle and swim from Rocky beaches. The facilities of the hotel are very luxurious from hot towels in the gym, the golf cart that took us to the tennis centre, and Hannah the hawk who sees off the seagulls from the infinity pool! Gym, tennis centre, spa and pools are all fantastic and well equipped. The rooms are very quiet and restful. We wanted to spend more time that we did just hanging out on the balcony. The food is generally good and Katrina’s the sandwich bar is a great place for a pitstop. The service is unparalleled. We were looked after so well by all the staff (and kept receiving lovely gifts throughout our stay). And the view! You can’t beat it. We will be back!
