Granville House sits at the edge of Sooke, a small coastal town on the southern shore of Vancouver Island where the forest meets the Strait of Juan de Fuca. The property is a restored Victorian-era residence, its architecture carrying the weight and warmth of the late 19th century while offering the kind of intimate hospitality that larger hotels rarely achieve. Arriving here feels less like checking in and more like being welcomed into a well-kept home with exceptional taste, where every room has been considered with care and the pace of life slows to something closer to the rhythm of the surrounding landscape.
The inn offers a small collection of individually appointed guest rooms, each designed with period-sympathetic furnishings, fine linens, and the kind of personal touches that reflect genuine attention rather than formula. Some rooms feature fireplaces, soaking tubs, or views that look out toward the water or the property's gardens. Common spaces invite guests to settle in with a book or a glass of wine, and mornings begin with a multi-course breakfast prepared on site, served in a dining room that feels both elegant and unhurried. The cooking draws on local ingredients and seasonal availability, making each morning's offering a small event in itself. There is a graciousness to the experience at Granville House that feels rooted in tradition rather than trend.
Sooke and the surrounding region reward exploration. The wild coastline of East Sooke Regional Park, the old-growth forests along the trails, and the working harbour all sit within easy reach. The town has developed a reputation for its connection to the land and sea, with local farms, artisan producers, and the freshest possible seafood shaping the culinary character of the area. Victoria, the provincial capital, is a short drive east, offering galleries, restaurants, and the more cosmopolitan energy of a small city. But many guests find that once they arrive at Granville House, the pull of the surrounding wilderness and the comfort of the inn itself are reason enough to stay close.
What lingers after a stay here is the sense of proportion. Granville House does not attempt to be everything. It is a small, beautifully maintained property in one of British Columbia's most naturally dramatic settings, run with the kind of warmth and personal investment that makes a place feel genuinely memorable. The scale is human, the setting is spectacular, and the experience is one of quiet, deeply personal comfort.

What we love about this stay
Granville House has the quality of a place that never had to try too hard — it simply settled into its quiet Great Barrington street and became exactly what it needed to be. There's a domesticity here that feels earned, not staged: fresh flowers from the garden, coffee already brewed when you arrive, rooms that prioritize softness and calm over any particular design statement. It's a bed and breakfast that understands the Berkshires aren't about spectacle but about texture — the lace curtains, the sun-dappled dining room, mornings built around locally sourced plates that taste like the region rather than performing it. You return each evening and it genuinely feels like someone kept the light on for you.

The perfect special place for your special getaway Our room was beautifully decorated with an unique, elegant and chic style. The common areas are also stunning, full with books and with vynils (great music selection). Very convenient location, only a few minutes driving to Great Barrington and Stockbridge. Breakfast was superb!
