The building has been here since 1924, and it carries every decade in its bones. Hotel Clermont occupies the former Clermont Motor Hotel on Ponce de Leon Avenue, a structure that has cycled through eras of grandeur, neglect, and notoriety before arriving at something more intentional. The renovation preserved the midcentury signage and the building's slightly defiant posture against the Atlanta skyline, updating interiors with a design vocabulary that favors warmth and texture over polish. Exposed brick, custom millwork, and vintage-inspired furnishings give the rooms a layered quality, as though the hotel remembers what it was and has chosen what to keep.
The 94 rooms range from cozy standards to more spacious suites, each outfitted with custom furniture, Smeg refrigerators, and curated minibars that lean local. Bathrooms feature walk-in showers with hand-laid tile, and many rooms offer views that sweep across the Poncey-Highland neighborhood toward downtown. The aesthetic is deliberate without being overwrought, a kind of collected sophistication that feels lived-in rather than staged.
Downstairs, Tiny Lou's serves French-American brasserie fare beneath a dining room designed to evoke a 1960s supper club, all curved banquettes, terrazzo floors, and warm lighting that deepens as the evening progresses. The rooftop bar offers open-air drinking with panoramic views of the Atlanta skyline, a gathering point that draws both hotel guests and locals on warm evenings. And then there is the Clermont Lounge, the legendary basement bar that has operated beneath the building for decades, surviving every iteration of the property above it. Its inclusion is not an afterthought but a statement of identity. Hotel Clermont does not erase its history. It absorbs it.
The location along Ponce de Leon places the hotel within walking distance of the Atlanta BeltLine's Eastside Trail, the Ponce City Market, and the creative energy of the neighborhoods that radiate outward from this stretch of the city. It is a part of Atlanta that rewards wandering, where independent shops, restaurants, and murals fill the blocks between major landmarks.
What lingers about Hotel Clermont is its refusal to be one thing. It holds a rooftop cocktail and a dive bar in the same building without apology, pairs French-inflected cuisine with neon signage, and treats its own complicated past as a feature rather than something to renovate away. The result is a hotel that feels genuinely of its city, a place where character has been earned rather than designed from scratch.

What we love about this stay
Hotel Clermont has the kind of personality that can't be manufactured — it's a place where Atlanta's history and its restless creative energy coexist without either one winning out. The lobby feels layered, textured, like it's been collecting stories for decades, and the 94 rooms are intimate enough that the hotel never loses its sense of identity to scale. There's a knowing wit here, too, most evident at Tiny Lou's, the on-site restaurant named after a 1950s dancer, where the food carries that same spirit of theatricality without taking itself too seriously. Situated right in the thick of the city's cultural pulse, steps from the BeltLine and the Fox Theatre, this is a hotel that doesn't need to compete with its surroundings — it belongs to them. It's the kind of place that rewards people who want to feel Atlanta rather than simply tour it.
