Hotel La Tosca sits along a leafy lane in Capri, just steps from the Giardini di Augusto yet removed from the island's busiest corners. The approach is intimate rather than grand, a small hotel where bougainvillea climbs whitewashed walls and the terrace opens to views that stretch across the sea toward the Faraglioni rocks. There is no lobby spectacle here, no orchestrated arrival moment. Instead, you find the kind of place that has long attracted travelers who already know Capri well enough to seek its gentler rhythms.
The rooms are simply appointed and bright, with tiled floors and an unfussy Mediterranean sensibility that lets the setting do the work. Many open onto private terraces or balconies where mornings begin with coffee and the particular quality of light that only a small island in the Bay of Naples can produce. La Tosca is not a full-service resort. It is a pensione in the truest tradition, a place that provides a beautiful room, a welcoming atmosphere, and the freedom to discover the island on your own terms. The common terrace, shaded by lemon trees and flowering vines, serves as the hotel's social heart, a place where guests gather in the late afternoon after returning from the beach or a walk along the cliffs.
Capri rewards those who wander beyond the Piazzetta, and La Tosca's position makes that effortless. The Certosa di San Giacomo, the island's fourteenth-century Carthusian monastery, is a short walk away. The Via Krupp winds dramatically down to Marina Piccola, where the swimming is some of the best in the Mediterranean. The island's network of footpaths leads to quieter coves, hidden gardens, and the kind of views that have drawn writers and artists for centuries. The town center, with its designer boutiques and cafe-lined squares, remains close enough to reach in minutes yet distant enough to feel like a separate world when you return to the hotel's garden.
Hotel La Tosca is the kind of place that lingers in memory not for any single extravagance but for the cumulative effect of simple pleasures repeated over several days. The scent of lemons on the terrace. The sound of church bells drifting across rooftops. The knowledge that the sea is always just below. It belongs to a tradition of Capri hospitality that prizes warmth and character over scale, and it rewards guests who arrive looking not for a resort experience but for a home on an island they already love.

What we love about this stay
There's a particular kind of Capri that exists away from the glossy daytrip crowds — quieter, cliff-perched, scented with lemon groves, and utterly unhurried. Hotel La Tosca lives in that version of the island. It's a boutique property that doesn't try to be grand; its elegance is understated, almost whispered, which feels exactly right for its setting above Marina Piccola Bay. The terrace is the emotional center of the place — where breakfast stretches long over espresso and where evenings settle into something close to reverence as the island's lights emerge. You sense that the hotel knows what it is: not a destination in itself, but a frame for everything Capri does best. The proximity to the Piazzetta and the beaches means the island's energy is close, yet there's a stillness here that makes returning feel like its own reward. It's the kind of place that earns loyalty not through spectacle but through a persistent, gentle rightness.

Incredibly kind and gracious owner and very helpful and friendly staff. The location is perfect and there are lovely views from the breakfast terrace. Breakfast was good too. Service was excellent at breakfast and throughout my stay. Ettore, the owner, is an incredibly gracious man. He was extremely helpful and gave me loads of great restaurant suggestions and trips to try. He sent me all the ferry times before I arrived. On my last evening I wasn’t feeling well and Ettore made me several pots of mint tea and toast. He was just so kind and helpful. A memorable stay. I hope to come back some day

Best place to stay on Capri!!! Great Hotel and Great Owners!!!! I have been on a two month vacation traveling Europe. France, Switzerland, Germany, and Italy. I always try and find family-owned hotels because they tend to take care of customers more than large corporate hotel chains. I was very fortunate to find Hotel La Tosca on Capri. It is family owned. The hotel has been in Ettore’s (the husband) family and you can tell the pride he takes in owning the family hotel. He and his wife (Michelle) are such nice and professional people. The hotel is modern, great A/C and wifi. The rooms are large and comfortable and the hotel is a 5-10 min walk to the city center which is nice to get away from the crowds and noise. It has been my favorite place to stay as I am ending my vacation. The hotel accommodation is fantastic and the view from the front patio is such a beautiful view. They serve breakfast out on the patio in the mornings, but what makes this hotel my favorite, is the owners. Ettore goes out of his way to make sure your stay is exceptional. He will offer to make dinner reservations and arrange luggage transfers and will sit with you and ask what is your perfect Capri vacation, and will try and make that happen. What great owners. I planned 9 days on Capri to hike and scuba dive and I am so glad I found this hotel. I have hiked so many trails on this island and I have hiked by so many hotels and I would not want to stay any where but Hotel La Tosca. You can’t go wrong staying at Hotel La Tosca. When I come back to Capri I will stay here again. You enter as customers but you leave as friends. Thank you to Ettore, Michelle, and all the wonderful and friendly staff. What a way to end my vacation!!! Andy
