The building arrived before the neighborhood had its name. Built in 1861 as an orphanage for the Daughters of Charity, the structure on Magazine Street has carried the weight of purpose through every chapter of its life. Now, as Hotel Saint Vincent, it carries something different: a sense of occasion, layered with patina, that makes walking through its doors feel like stepping into a New Orleans that exists outside of any particular decade. The restoration preserved the bones of the original Italianate architecture while introducing a design language rooted in deep jewel tones, ecclesiastical flourishes, and a kind of theatrical warmth that suits the city's appetite for drama without tipping into costume.
The hotel holds 75 rooms and suites spread across multiple floors, each drawing from a palette of rich greens, burgundies, and golds, with original architectural details intact where possible. Rooms range from intimate quarters to generous suites, and the variety reflects the building's history as a structure that was never designed with uniformity in mind. That irregularity becomes part of the appeal. Beyond the guest rooms, the property unfolds into a series of distinct spaces that function almost as independent destinations. The Paradise Lounge offers cocktails in a setting that leans into moody, vintage glamour. The Chapel is an intimate bar set within the former house of worship, its original stained glass still filtering light across the room. Elizabeth Street Café, a Vietnamese-French concept, brings a different register entirely, serving pho and pastries in a bright, cheerful space that opens onto the street. San Lorenzo, the hotel's Italian restaurant and pool bar, anchors the courtyard and swimming pool area, where guests settle into lounge chairs framed by tropical plantings and the building's weathered brick facade.
The Lower Garden District location places Hotel Saint Vincent within walking distance of the arts, antiques, and restaurant culture that lines Magazine Street, while remaining a comfortable remove from the French Quarter's density. The neighborhood carries its own particular character, defined by Greek Revival homes, live oak canopy, and a pace that rewards wandering without agenda. It is one of the city's most residential stretches of genuine architectural beauty, and the hotel draws from that context rather than competing with it.
What lingers after a stay here is less about any single detail and more about the accumulation of atmosphere across the property's many rooms and moods. Hotel Saint Vincent operates as a place where evening drinks in a converted chapel can give way to a morning swim in a sun-filled courtyard, where the history of the building is always present but never solemn. It is New Orleans hospitality rendered through a very specific lens: one that understands the city's love of beauty, ceremony, and a well-made drink at any hour.

What we love about this stay
There's a particular kind of confidence in a building that's stood since 1861 and still knows exactly what it's doing. Hotel Saint Vincent wears its history without performing it — the restoration feels less like preservation and more like a sharp, unhurried conversation between eras. You sense it in the custom wallpaper, the generous dressing areas, the way the rooms feel designed for lingering rather than just sleeping. The dining pulls off something rare: an Italian restaurant and a French-Vietnamese café coexisting under the same roof without either feeling like an afterthought. And the Chapel Club, reserved for guests, shifts its personality from day to night in a way that mirrors the city itself. That Saltillo-tiled pool tucked within historic brick walls captures something essential about this corner of New Orleans — indulgence held within structure, warmth framed by something enduring.

Hotel Saint Vincent is one of my favorite places in New Orleans. The staff is some of the most incredible people I’ve ever met and I will definitely be returning. I am from New Orleans and hotel Saint Vincent is a beautiful representation of my city. Sarah, the front desk manager is a true gem. She goes out of her way to help and her energy and smile is contagious. Jamaul the bell man was always willing to help and provide the best service. Marie in the gift shop was so knowledgeable about the products and her style is impeccable. I can’t wait to be back and hug all of them!

My boyfriend and I recently had dinner at Hotel St. Vincent and all I can say is WOW! The vibe in the restaurant is perfection. The food was absolutely delicious, the drinks were tasty and to make things even better, we had an incredible server; Young Mike. He was super knowledgeable about the food and made great recommendations! Plus, he was so fun and hospitable it really caught us by surprise.I can’t recommend this place enough, especially for a romantic dinner.

Had a dreamy stay at Hotel Saint Vincent, I about cried when I had to leave. Yeh property is absolutely beautiful, so relaxing and interesting. I enjoyed every moment at the pool, it was so clean and well maintained, the seating was so comfortable and the temperature was perfect. Special mention to the staff, every person was so warm and welcoming. The pool attendant went above and beyond to ensure we had the perfect stay, she was so kind and inviting it made the stay just so incredibly special. The food was incredible, the Italian margarita is maybe my new favourite drink. I will dream about my perfect stay until I am so fortunate as to return again.

This property is outstanding in location, service, food & amenities. Keep in mind it is an old hotel with a boutique aviance so do not expect a very modern room. It is clean, neat & comfortable & the little outside deck overlooking the Plaza & pool was so inviting especially at night. Take a glass a wine out & relax or have breakfast on the deck in the am - so lovely. We highly recommend.

This was my 3rd stay at this wonderful hotel and we fell even more in love with it. Not only is the property gorgeous and perfectly located but the STAFF… They were friendly, helpful and made us feel right at home. We were dropping our daughter off at Tulane so we were emotional and busy - and the staff embraced us like we were family friends. Toi, Eddy, Karen, Chase…thank you all. Even the ghosts were friendly 😜! The room was gorgeous. The food was great. The property was clean and impeccably designed. We will definitely be back.
