The first impression is one of openness. Janeiro Hotel rises at the edge of Leblon, where one of Rio de Janeiro's most prestigious neighborhoods meets the sand, and the architecture responds accordingly. Floor-to-ceiling glass frames the Atlantic in nearly every direction, while interiors draw on a palette of natural materials and Brazilian modernism that feels both rooted and contemporary. The design is deliberate but never heavy, letting the ocean and the light do most of the work.
The property's 53 rooms and suites are oriented toward the water, with private balconies that look out across Leblon Beach and, in many cases, toward the distant silhouette of the Dois Irmãos mountains. Interiors are warm and understated, with organic textures, custom furnishings, and a sense of space that belies the building's boutique scale. The higher categories open onto broader terraces, where sunrise over the Atlantic becomes part of the daily rhythm.
Dining at Janeiro Hotel centers on Gero, an outpost of the celebrated Italian restaurant by Fasano, where refined Italian cuisine meets the informality of a beachside setting. The rooftop pool and bar occupy the hotel's crown, offering panoramic views that stretch from Ipanema to the Pedra da Gávea. It is the kind of space where an afternoon drink extends effortlessly into evening, the city's golden light shifting across the water below. The pool deck itself is intimate, designed more for lingering than laps, with attentive service and a cocktail program that draws on Brazilian ingredients alongside classic preparations.
Leblon is arguably Rio's most desirable residential neighborhood, quieter and more polished than neighboring Ipanema but no less vibrant. The streets immediately surrounding the hotel hold some of the city's best dining, from casual juice bars to fine dining destinations, alongside boutiques, galleries, and the lush trails of Parque Natural Municipal da Catacumba nearby. The beach at the doorstep is wide and well-kept, a gathering place for cariocas rather than tourists, which lends it a distinctly local energy.
Janeiro Hotel operates at the intersection of boutique intimacy and destination grandeur. It is small enough to feel personal, positioned well enough to feel connected, and designed with enough restraint to let Rio's extraordinary landscape remain the protagonist. You leave not with the memory of a hotel, but with the sensation of having lived briefly inside the city's most beautiful frame.

What we love about this stay
There's a particular quality to a hotel that knows exactly where it is — not just geographically, but culturally — and JANEIRO feels like that rare place where Rio's restless energy and the ocean's calm coexist without competing. The design is modern and airy but grounded in tropical sensibility, clean lines softened by the kind of warmth that only comes from a city this alive. Floor-to-ceiling windows in sea-facing rooms don't just frame the Atlantic, they dissolve the boundary between inside and out, letting the breeze and the light do most of the decorating. Evenings here shift naturally toward the bar, where a well-made caipirinha against a sunset feels less like a resort ritual and more like something the city itself is offering you. It's a property that captures Rio's particular duality — that tension between exhilaration and ease — and lets you live inside it for a while.
