The boat ride is short, barely two miles from the Antigua mainland, but the distance it creates is immeasurable. Jumby Bay Island reveals itself gradually from the water: a fringe of white sand, coconut palms leaning toward the shore, and a low canopy of tropical green that conceals one of the Caribbean's most discreet private island resorts. Managed by Oetker Collection, the property occupies the entirety of Long Island, a 300-acre car-free sanctuary where bicycles line crushed-coral paths and the rhythm of the day belongs entirely to you. The architecture is Caribbean colonial in spirit, white and airy, with wooden shutters and deep verandas designed to catch the trade winds. Suites and villas are spread across the island with a generosity of space that makes the word "resort" feel almost insufficient. Some sit beachside with direct access to powdery sand; others are tucked into garden settings surrounded by bougainvillea and frangipani. Estate Homes offer full residential privacy with dedicated pools, gardens, and personal staff.
Dining at Jumby Bay Island unfolds across several settings, each tuned to a different hour and appetite. The Estate House is the property's signature restaurant, set within a restored plantation-era building where candlelit evenings pair refined Caribbean-inflected cuisine with a sense of occasion. The Verandah offers a more relaxed poolside setting for lunch and casual meals throughout the day, while the Pool Grille serves lighter fare steps from the main infinity pool. Beach dining is available as well, with setups arranged along the sand for guests who prefer their meals barefoot. The cocktail culture here leans toward the unhurried: rum-based drinks at sunset, a well-curated wine list at dinner, and the feeling that no one is checking the time.
The spa draws on the natural surroundings, offering treatments in open-air pavilions with views into the garden canopy. A fitness center and yoga programming complement the wellness offerings, though the island's most restorative feature may simply be its silence. Three beaches wrap the island's coastline, each with a slightly different character. Pasture Bay is the longest stretch, wide and windswept, while Jumby Bay Beach near the main resort area offers calm, sheltered water. Hawksbill turtles nest along these shores during the summer months, and the property maintains an active conservation program that guests can observe. Water sports include kayaking, paddleboarding, Hobie Cat sailing, and snorkeling, all complimentary. A floodlit tennis pavilion and croquet lawn round out the land-based pursuits.
What stays with you after Jumby Bay Island is not a single detail but a quality of time. The absence of cars, the bicycle rides between lunch and the beach, the unstructured hours between a morning swim and an evening spent at the Estate House. It is a place where privacy and community coexist without friction, where the island's modest scale creates an intimacy that larger resorts cannot replicate. You leave feeling not just rested but recalibrated, as though the ordinary pace of life was something you had quietly agreed to set aside.

What we love about this stay
There's something about a place you can only reach by boat — the crossing itself becomes a kind of threshold, a quiet shedding of everything you carried to the dock. Jumby Bay sits on its own private island off Antigua, and that separation from the mainland isn't just geographic, it's psychological. The 40 rooms feel individually considered rather than replicated, with local artistry woven into the design in ways that remind you where you are. Meals and drinks are folded into the rate, which removes a particular kind of mental noise and lets you settle into the island's rhythm more completely. The Estate House serves Italian cooking built around local ingredients — an unexpected pairing that somehow fits. It's a place that suits people who don't need spectacle, who find luxury in the absence of friction and in the particular stillness of a small island where bicycles outnumber cars.

Holiday of a lifetime! Wonderful room, service, food and the most amazing staff. Nothing is too much trouble! Only one problem, your website states that there are 5 restaurants to choose from when in fact there are only 3.

Jumby Bay is like a little slice of paradise!! This was our second visit and won't be our last. Everything is done to perfection and the location couldn't be more perfect for anyone looking for a little seclusion, white sand beaches and crystal clear water. The food is excellent and the staff couldn't be more helpful and inviting!
