The approach is everything. You arrive along the Riva degli Schiavoni, Venice's most celebrated waterfront promenade, where the Basin of San Marco opens wide and the light off the lagoon shifts with each passing hour. Londra Palace Venezia stands here with the quiet authority of a property that has occupied this address since 1853, its neo-Gothic façade facing directly onto the water. This is not a hidden courtyard hotel or a palazzo tucked down a narrow calle. It is a hotel built for the view, for the light, for the particular drama of Venice seen from its most storied edge. Tchaikovsky composed his Fourth Symphony within these walls, and while the building has been thoughtfully renewed over the decades, it retains the proportions and presence of a grand Venetian landmark.
The hotel's 53 rooms and suites reflect a layered design sensibility that moves between Biedermeier-era elegance and contemporary refinement. Many rooms look directly onto the lagoon, framing San Giorgio Maggiore and the water traffic of the basin through tall windows. The interiors are rich without heaviness, with original artworks, Murano glass details, and fabrics that nod to Venetian tradition while feeling distinctly current. Suites offer generous proportions and living areas suited to longer stays or quieter retreats from the city's intensity.
Do Restaurant, the hotel's dining room, draws on the Venetian culinary tradition with a contemporary perspective, showcasing seafood and seasonal ingredients from the lagoon and surrounding regions. The terrace seating along the Riva is among the most coveted in the city, placing you directly above the waterfront with views stretching across the basin. For something less formal, the hotel's bar offers cocktails and lighter fare in an atmosphere that feels like a well-kept Venetian salon. The 100 Windows Bar and Lounge takes its name from the abundance of lagoon-facing windows throughout the property, reinforcing the sense that this hotel was conceived around light and water.
The location places you within minutes of Piazza San Marco, the Doge's Palace, and the Bridge of Sighs, yet the Riva itself provides a sense of openness that much of Venice's interior lacks. The wide promenade, the movement of vaporetti, and the expanse of sky above the basin create a rhythm that feels distinctly different from the dense, winding streets behind you. The hotel's position also offers easy access to the Biennale gardens and the Arsenale, grounding it in both the historic and contemporary cultural life of the city.
What stays with you after Londra Palace Venezia is the particular quality of evening along the Riva, when the crowds thin and the lagoon turns copper and violet. It is a hotel that understands its greatest offering is not an amenity but a vantage point, a place where Venice reveals itself not through discovery but through stillness, through the slow work of water and light against stone.

What we love about this stay
There's a particular thickness to the air here—not humid exactly, but layered, as if the 14th-century walls have been quietly absorbing centuries of canal water and conversation. Hotel Donà Palace sits close enough to Saint Mark's Square that you feel the city's pulse, yet the moment you step inside, something shifts. Rich fabrics, classic wood, and rooms that frame Venice like paintings you can actually live inside. What sets it apart is the internal garden—an improbable green pocket hidden within the density of the city, the kind of place where a glass of Prosecco feels less like indulgence and more like breathing. It's a property that suits travelers who want proximity to Venice's iconic bones without surrendering to the crowds entirely, a place where the balance between grandeur and intimacy tilts just right.
