There is a particular kind of beauty in a building that almost disappeared. Missing Hotel occupies a nineteenth-century structure in Porto's historic center, one that sat vacant long enough to become part of the city's architectural unconscious before being carefully restored into something deliberately unfinished, deliberately present. The design language here is raw and considered in equal measure. Exposed stone walls meet poured concrete, salvaged materials sit alongside custom-built furniture, and natural light moves through the building in ways that feel both accidental and orchestrated. The hotel's name is not ironic. It refers to what was missing, what was found, and the deliberate gaps left in between.
Twenty-two rooms and suites are arranged across the building's upper floors, each one distinct in layout and character. Some are compact and monastic, with whitewashed walls and minimal furnishings that let the architecture speak. Others open into more generous proportions with freestanding bathtubs, original timber ceilings, and views that take in Porto's layered rooftscape. The material palette throughout is honest: linen, wood, stone, steel. Nothing decorative for its own sake. The effect is a kind of warm austerity, rooms that feel stripped back without feeling spare.
Downstairs, the hotel's ground floor operates as a social and culinary anchor. The restaurant draws on Portuguese tradition with a contemporary, produce-led sensibility, offering dishes that reflect the season and the region's deep relationship with the Atlantic. A bar area invites slower evenings, the kind where a glass of port or a cocktail becomes the centerpiece of an unhurried conversation. The spaces flow into one another without hard boundaries, blending guests with locals in a way that feels genuinely porous rather than curated.
Porto itself is the essential context. Missing Hotel sits within walking distance of the Douro riverfront, the Ribeira district, the Clérigos Tower, and the constellation of galleries, wine bars, and neighborhood restaurants that define the city's creative energy. This is a city built on trade, tile, and topography, its steep streets revealing new perspectives with every turn. The hotel does not try to compete with the city or retreat from it. It sits within it, openly, like a room with its door left ajar.
What stays with you after Missing Hotel is not any single detail but a kind of tone. The feeling of a place that trusts restraint, that finds beauty in imperfection, and that understands hospitality as presence rather than performance. You leave Porto carrying the weight of its history and the lightness of a hotel that knew exactly how much to hold back.

What we love about this stay
There's a particular kind of quiet that settles over a lodge positioned near Lake Travis — not silence exactly, but a hum of wildlife and open space that recalibrates your attention. This property leans into that feeling without overproducing it. Rooms are individually furnished rather than stamped from the same mold, each with its own sitting area and a deck or patio that gives you a reason to linger between indoors and out. It's the kind of place where a driving range, a garden, and the chance to spot game and wildlife coexist without competing for your time. The personality here is unhurried and a little eccentric — books and games instead of a programmed itinerary, outdoor entertainment space instead of a manicured scene. It suits the traveler who wants proximity to nature without roughing it, and who finds that the best stays are the ones that don't try too hard to impress.

My husband and I exchanged our electronics for hiking, reading , eating outdoors and get alone time. Accommodations were comfortable, nicely decorated and clean. Staff was courteous and quick to respond to our questions. We missed meeting the hotels bovine mascots, Elvis and Presley. So perhaps on a future visit we will have the pleasure. Our quiet time at The Missing Hotel was unique, fun and unforgettable.

Was a great trip that let us have a nice relaxing weekend to enjoy nature and unplug. It’s close by to nice towns and places to visit, all within 20min. The cows are great, a must visit to check them out. With yard games, hiking trails and hot tub in unit for amazing star gazing. This place is a must visit.

Amazing glamping experience in a beautiful location. My husband & I did a weekend stay to celebrate our anniversary & it was perfect. We stayed in Sabi—one of the domes: comfy bed, great temp control (especially for summer), beautiful decor, well laid out floor plan with great use of the space. The attention to details was superb! The patio with the dipping pool & grill was perfect for preparing our meals & relaxing. We took a couple of ice chests & managed to cook tasty, easy food on our patio. The Blackstone grill was not working when we arrived but with one text message, the onsite crew was there & fixed it for us. Very private even though there are other domes in the area. The dipping pool felt amazing after hiking around on the property. I highly recommend hiking the trails for some amazing views & added bonuses. The yard games area was super fun & well stocked with many different yard games. We even took advantage of the driving range on top of the hill. We will definitely return for another stay as it was just what we needed to disconnect from work/tech & reconnect with each other in a beautiful space!

My husband and I stayed at the Trouvay for our 10 year wedding anniversary. We were blown away by how cozy and relaxing it is. We had plans to leave and explore other places in the area but we both decided we loved it there so much we didn’t want to leave. We did bring enough food and drinks for the whole weekend so we were happy. I learned all about forest bathing but most importantly my husband and I didn’t have to worry about anything except being together. You really have to be there to truly understand the peacefulness this place has. A cooler full of food is all you really need to truly have an amazing time. We are already looking forward to our next trip even though it 4 hours away from home.

The best view from the dome and the cows were so gorgeous. I just love the peace and quiet. Nature sure is amazing. Everything was wonderful inside the dome. No complains! The price was great for one night and restaurants aren’t that far away.
