The first thing you notice is the stillness. Red River Elusive Elk Glamping Tent 1 sits at the threshold between cultivated comfort and untouched wild, a canvas shelter designed to bring you closer to the landscape rather than shield you from it. This is not roughing it. It is something more deliberate: a considered retreat where the structure itself becomes a frame for the trees, the river, and the unhurried rhythm of days spent outdoors.
The tent is outfitted with the essentials of a comfortable stay, offering a proper bed and thoughtful touches that make the experience feel intentional rather than improvised. The canvas walls breathe with the weather, letting in the sounds of the surrounding forest and the cool air that settles along the river at dusk. There is a simplicity here that feels restorative, a paring back to what matters most when you step away from the noise of daily life. The property's name nods to the elusive elk that roam the area, and the sense of proximity to wildlife is part of what defines the experience. You are a guest in their territory, and the design of the stay respects that.
Much of your time here unfolds outdoors. The surrounding landscape invites exploration on foot, whether along the riverbanks or through the wooded terrain that stretches beyond the tent's clearing. Evenings are shaped by the quality of the sky overhead and the kind of quiet that only comes with distance from town. The glamping format strikes a balance between immersion and ease, giving you the freedom to engage with nature without sacrificing the comfort of a well-made bed at the end of the day.
What stays with you after a night at Red River Elusive Elk is not a single dramatic moment but the accumulation of small ones: the particular green of morning light filtered through canvas, the sound of water moving nearby, the way a landscape this open makes your own thoughts feel quieter. It is a place that asks very little of you and, in return, offers something increasingly rare.

What we love about this stay
There's something quietly disarming about sleeping in a teepee that also happens to have air conditioning and a king bed — it's that tension between rough and refined that gives this place its personality. Situated along the river in Stanton, with kayak access right there and trails at Bear Track Park and Spencer Morton Preserve nearby, the setting earns its remoteness honestly. But what lingers isn't the activity — it's the stillness between moments, the pine-scented air inside the tent, the private deck where the night sky feels unmediated and close. It suits the kind of traveler who wants wildness without pretense, comfort without fuss.

100% recommend. We stayed in dome 1 for our 2 year wedding anniversary and it was amazing. Space was clean and well stocked and it was very dark at night. Stargazing was amazing even with the clouds! It was unlike any other experience! PLEASE make sure to be well-prepared though as there is a good 20 minute drive through dirt roads. The night we got there our tire popped due to a stray razor blade. So make sure you have a ready-to-go spare as the nearest tire shop is in Alpine (1 hour away). Also we really enjoyed the Lost Mines trail and loved that it wasn't a far drive from the campsite to get to it.

We loved our stay at Starstruck, the domes really are luxurious and the hosts have thought of everything. We grilled each night and sat under the stars at the firepit, it’s so quiet and beautiful, the views are incredible. Great location for exploring Big Bend (Santa Elena Canyon was my highlight). The road to the domes is a leveled dirt path, it’s a bit bumpy, you could definitely do it in a car, but it’s a couple of miles of track so just be aware.

These folks are doing it right. They provide everything you need to be in such remote place. We were there Dec 7th for two nights in Dome 4. It gets hot in the afternoon and cold at night. It was nice to a AC/heating unit when needed. The fire pit is really nice. The best star viewing was super early in the morning 3-4 am. Beds were comfortable. Everything worked. We used the grill, microwave, frig, sink outside had warm water. Four microwavable frozen dinners is about all you can fit into the freezer. Bring plenty of water to drink and wash dishes. Best navigation was Google maps. Just turn it on and don’t touch it or run a bunch of apps in the background. You won’t be able to search while driving. But Google maps will show you the off-road street names to follow but there are no street signs. Good job star struck.

What an amazing stay!! Never been more in awe with the desert and its serenity. Directions were so helpful to get there, packing tips were much appreciated, and it was so close to big bend that it made it super easy to get there each day. Can’t wait to come back and cook out underneath the stars again!

My husband booked us a weekend at StarStruck Glamping for our 4th anniversary. We had a great experience! It was right between camping and not camping. The location was far away from everything, like camping, but with the creature comforts from home, like a bed, running water, electricity, and hot showers. The room was nice, modern, and well kept. You will need to bring your own food stuffs, but everything needed to cook is there. The bed was firm but comfortable. It was a great getaway from everything. The views were absolutely breathtaking. Words cannot describe the majestic beauty of the sky at sunrise, sunset, and at night. The set up for stargazing was perfect! They thought of everything. There's nice lounge chairs to lay back and enjoy the stars. I would definitely recommend this kind of trip for anyone who enjoys the outdoors, but not necessarily being IN the outdoors.
