The town square of Jackson, Wyoming sits just steps away, but the moment you cross the threshold of Rusty Parrot Lodge and Spa, the bustle of ski-town commerce recedes into something quieter. This is a 31-room lodge built from heavy timber and river rock, designed with the proportions of a mountain home rather than a conventional hotel. Common spaces are anchored by stone fireplaces, leather furnishings, and the kind of warmth that accumulates over decades of genuine hospitality. It feels personal in a way that larger Teton Valley properties rarely manage, a lodge where the staff knows your name and your morning coffee order by day two.
Accommodations range from well-appointed rooms to spacious suites, each finished with down duvets, handcrafted furniture, and details that reflect the surrounding landscape without veering into theme. Many offer views of the Teton Range or Snow King Mountain, and the overall scale remains intimate enough that hallways stay hushed even during peak season. Mornings begin with a complimentary breakfast at Wild Sage Restaurant, the lodge's acclaimed on-site dining room, where the kitchen works with regional ingredients to compose dishes that reward attention. In the evenings, Wild Sage shifts into a proper dinner destination, drawing both hotel guests and Jackson locals with a menu rooted in the Northern Rockies but polished in its execution. A curated wine list and attentive service complete an experience that holds its own among the valley's best tables.
The Body Sage Spa occupies a dedicated space within the lodge, offering massage, body treatments, and facials in an environment designed around restoration after long days on the mountain or the trail. It is small by resort standards, which works in its favor. Treatments feel unhurried, and the spa's integration into the lodge means you never need to venture far from the fireplace to find deep relaxation. During winter, Grand Targhee and Jackson Hole Mountain Resort provide world-class skiing within easy reach. Summer opens the door to hiking in Grand Teton National Park, fly fishing on the Snake River, and wildlife excursions through the greater Yellowstone ecosystem. The lodge's concierge team arranges outfitting and guiding services, connecting guests to the landscape with a specificity that only comes from years of local knowledge.
Jackson itself occupies a rare position among mountain towns. It sits at the southern gateway to Grand Teton and Yellowstone National Parks, surrounded by millions of acres of protected wilderness, yet maintains a walkable downtown with galleries, shops, and restaurants worth exploring on foot. The Rusty Parrot Lodge and Spa lives right at that intersection of town and wild, close enough to everything but calibrated for retreat. What stays with you is the particular rhythm of the place: the crackle of the lobby fire after a cold day outside, the quiet professionalism of a team that treats hospitality as craft, and the feeling that a lodge this size, in a setting this dramatic, offers something that scale simply cannot replicate.

What we love about this stay
There's a specific kind of lodge that doesn't try to compete with its surroundings—it just knows how to hold space for them. The Rusty Parrot feels like that. Handcrafted furnishings and polished woodwork give it a warmth that's earned, not staged, and those expansive windows in every room aren't decorative choices so much as quiet acts of respect for the Tetons just beyond. It's small enough to feel personal, unhurried enough to let the crackling fireplace do most of the talking. Wild Sage restaurant leans into local flavors with a seriousness that rewards attention, and the Body Sage Spa uses native herbs in a way that ties your body back to the landscape outside. This is a place for people who want both the river rapids and the river rock fireplace—who understand that real luxury in Wyoming isn't polish, it's proximity to something vast.

My wife and I celebrated our 30th anniversary in Jackson and spent three wonderful nights at the Rusty Parrot. After three decades of staying at some excellent Conrad and Waldorf properties, this one has officially become our favorite—yes, it beat them all. From the friendly text from management the day before we arrived, it was clear this place does hospitality right. With a smaller number of rooms, the staff actually knows who you are (imagine that!) and treats you like you’re their most important guest—without being over the top. The location is perfect: just a few short blocks from the heart of Jackson and an easy walk, even when the temperature reminds you that you’re in Wyoming. And if you opt for daily housekeeping, your room gets refreshed twice a day, each time with a thoughtful, classy touch that makes you smile when you walk back in. The Rusty Parrot made our anniversary trip truly special, and we’re already looking forward to our return.

We stayed here for three nights while visiting Jackson Hole and had a wonderful experience. The rooms are beautiful, and all of the staff were very friendly. We ate at the hotel restaurant every day for breakfast as well as once for dinner, and every meal was excellent. We also appreciated the complimentary coffee and tea that was made available all day, as well as the delicious cookies that were put out in the evening. We would not hesitate to stay here again.
