The road narrows past Kranjska Gora, threading through the Martuljek valley where the Julian Alps rise in a wall of limestone and pine. Špik Alpine Resort sits here at the foot of Mount Špik, a property shaped entirely by its proximity to some of Slovenia's most dramatic high-altitude terrain. The architecture is alpine in character, with warm wood facades and pitched rooflines that settle naturally into the forested landscape. Arriving feels less like checking into a hotel and more like reaching a basecamp designed for comfort, a place built around the understanding that the mountains are the reason you came.
Accommodations range across hotel rooms, apartments, and alpine chalets, offering flexibility for couples, families, and longer stays. Many rooms feature balconies oriented toward the peaks, and the interiors lean into natural materials with clean, functional Slovenian design. The resort's Wellness Center anchors the indoor experience with an indoor swimming pool, saunas, a Turkish bath, and relaxation spaces designed to restore after days spent at altitude. An outdoor pool is available during warmer months, positioned with open views toward the surrounding ridgelines. For families, the property includes a dedicated children's playroom and animation programs, a detail that reflects the resort's welcoming character without compromising the tranquility of its adult spaces.
Dining at Špik Alpine Resort centers on the on-site restaurant, which serves Slovenian and broader regional cuisine with an emphasis on local ingredients. The menu reflects the mountain setting with hearty, well-prepared dishes suited to the appetite that builds after a day of hiking or skiing. A bar and terrace provide more casual gathering spaces, and the terrace in particular becomes a destination of its own on clear evenings when the alpine light lingers against the peaks. The resort also offers a Slovenian barbecue experience during the summer season, grounding the culinary program in the traditions of its region.
The location places guests within immediate reach of the Triglav National Park, the Martuljek Waterfalls, and the trails and ski slopes surrounding Kranjska Gora. In winter, the resort connects to skiing, cross-country routes, and snowshoeing. In summer, the same terrain opens into hiking, cycling, and via ferrata climbing. The Vršič Pass, Lake Jasna, and the Soča River valley are all accessible for day excursions, making the resort a natural point of departure for exploring northwestern Slovenia's most celebrated landscapes.
What stays with you after Špik Alpine Resort is the directness of the experience. There is no pretense layered between you and the mountains. The resort provides warmth, restoration, and genuine Slovenian hospitality, then sends you back out into a landscape that requires no embellishment.

What we love about this stay
There's a quietness to Špik that feels earned rather than manufactured — the kind of calm that comes from being genuinely tucked into the Slovenian Alps, surrounded by the Gozd Martuljek range, rather than merely gesturing at mountain life. The rooms lean into earth tones and handcrafted wood without overcorrecting into rustic kitsch, striking a balance that feels considered and warm. What sets this place apart is how deeply the Alpine environment infiltrates the experience — herbal spa treatments drawn from local flora, mineral-rich waters, cuisine built on regional ingredients with a modern Slovene sensibility. It's not a resort that happens to be in the mountains; the mountains are the whole point. The valley shifts dramatically with the seasons, and that impermanence gives each return visit a different emotional register, which is rare and genuinely compelling.

Good for a short stay, and a soak in a pool. Loved the spa pools, and that is close to a walking path.
