The elevator doors open to the top of Portland's tallest building, and the city unfolds beneath you in every direction. The Bygone Hotel occupies the upper floors of the landmark 1922 Fidelity Building, a neoclassical tower that once defined the Baltimore skyline and now anchors a different kind of ambition. The lobby is intimate and deliberately anachronistic, layered with antique furnishings, rich textiles, and the kind of decorative maximalism that feels neither museum nor stage set but something closer to a well-traveled collector's private residence. Every detail here suggests a specific moment in time, lovingly referenced but never replicated.
The hotel's rooms and suites carry this spirit forward with period-inspired interiors that feel genuinely lived-in rather than styled for a photograph. Expect vintage fixtures, deep-toned wallcoverings, brass hardware, and upholstered pieces that reward a closer look. The accommodations are individually appointed, and many offer sweeping views of the Inner Harbor and the city's rooftops, framed by the building's original oversized windows. There is a sense of permanence here, of craftsmanship that predates the disposable, and the effect is both grounding and luxurious in the truest sense of the word.
The Bygone Hotel's rooftop restaurant and bar have become destinations in their own right, drawing locals and travelers alike to one of Baltimore's most coveted dining perches. The menu leans into classic American supper club tradition with seafood, steaks, and cocktails served against panoramic harbor views. The atmosphere tilts glamorous after dark, with live music and a dress code that signals the kind of evening worth dressing for. It is a rare hotel dining experience that feels essential rather than incidental, the sort of place that anchors a visit to the city rather than merely accompanying it.
Baltimore's Inner Harbor, Fell's Point, and the cultural institutions of Mount Vernon are all within close reach, and the Fidelity Building's central position makes the city remarkably walkable from the hotel's front door. But the particular magic of The Bygone is the way it reframes Baltimore itself, offering a vantage point that is both literally and emotionally elevated. You arrive expecting a hotel and find instead a world constructed with uncommon conviction, one that borrows from the past without apology and sends you home with the lingering sense that glamour, when it is this carefully considered, never really goes out of style.

What we love about this stay
There's something about a converted barn in a quiet Welsh village that resets you in ways grander places can't. Yr Hen Ysgubor sits in Bottwnog on the Llŷn Peninsula, and its appeal is rooted in honest simplicity — a garden that feels genuinely lived-in rather than staged, the kind of place where you step outside and just stand still for a moment. It has the bones of a proper retreat without performing the role: a fireplace for evenings that turn cool, a kitchen that invites you to cook rather than eat out. The peninsula's coastline and landmarks like Criccieth Castle are close enough to explore, but the real draw is the unhurried stillness of the property itself. It suits the kind of traveler who doesn't need much — just the right atmosphere and enough quiet to hear themselves think.

Spent a beautiful Friday evening with some friends at this delightful restaurant. We didn't have any reservation as we decided to go there at the spur of the moment. The staffs were very nice and offered us a beautiful chamber with spacious couches and a gorgeous view of the city. One of our friends was not according to the dress code, so he was offered a clean blazer( true to his size!!) Our waitress Niah was jovial and very helpful. Breathtaking views, amazing drinks( definitely most delicious cocktails), and wonderful ambiance. Will definitely come back soon.

Seafood tower was amazing. Filet was cooked to perfection. Poached pear dessert was surprisingly delicious. Wonderful staff made the evening more enjoyable.

The view was amazing if you got the seats on the right side. They had two sides - the bar area and the sitting area. The service was really good as the staff would come and introduce the wine. The alcohol was in general of very good quality. However, the food was just so-so. We ordered a pork belly and an octopus - both of them were disappointing as they were overcooked and probably a wrong choice of cut.

Bygone is undoubtedly one of the best restaurants in Baltimore, and our visit lived up to its stellar reputation. Located on the top floor of the Four Seasons, the restaurant offers stunning, immaculate views of the city, especially at night. It's the perfect setting for a celebration, whether it's an anniversary, a romantic date, or even a business dinner. The service was impeccable, and the hospitality was top-notch. Our waitress was attentive and added to the overall experience. As expected for a high-end establishment, the prices reflect the quality, but you truly get what you pay for. The food was delicious and well-prepared, complementing the unbeatable atmosphere. We visited in the winter, so it was cold outside, but the restaurant does offer outdoor seating with breathtaking views of Baltimore for those willing to brave the chill. If you haven’t had a chance to dine here, I highly recommend visiting at least once. It’s a memorable experience that’s worth the splurge for the exceptional quality all around.
