The approach sets the register immediately. A long, low-slung pavilion of clean lines and dark timber stretches between the Al Hajar Mountains and the Gulf of Oman, its architecture a study in proportion and composure. The Chedi Muscat occupies 21 acres of manicured gardens along a private beach, its buildings drawn in a language that merges traditional Omani forms with contemporary Asian minimalism. Water features thread through the grounds in long, still channels. Reflecting pools mirror the sky. It is a property that understands the power of horizontal space, of openness calibrated against the desert light.

The 158 rooms and suites are arranged across Chedi Club Suites, Deluxe Club Rooms, and Serai Wing accommodations, each designed with clean, uncluttered interiors of polished teak, neutral stone, and floor-to-ceiling glass. Many open onto private terraces or gardens. The Chedi Club Suites occupy their own wing with dedicated lounge access, while the larger suites offer generous living areas suited to longer stays. Throughout, the aesthetic remains deliberate and restrained, a counterpoint to the expansive landscape beyond each window.

Dining across the property moves between distinct registers. The Restaurant serves refined all-day dining with both international and Omani-inspired dishes. The Beach Restaurant brings a more relaxed coastal mood, positioned directly on the sand with views across the gulf. The Arabian Courtyard offers open-air dining surrounded by traditional architecture, while The Lobby Lounge and The Long Pool Cabana provide lighter fare and cocktails through the day. Three swimming pools define the outdoor experience: the 103-metre Long Pool, one of the longest in the region, stretches through the heart of the grounds; the Serai Pool offers a quieter retreat; and the spa pool anchors the wellness wing. The Chedi Spa spans over 800 square metres and draws on both Asian and Middle Eastern wellness traditions, with Balinese therapies, a traditional hammam, and a full fitness and movement studio.

Muscat itself is a capital city that reveals itself with unusual quietness. The Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque, the Royal Opera House, and the old harbor at Mutrah Souq sit within easy reach, while the Hajar Mountains and desert landscapes beyond offer day trips of striking contrast. The Chedi's position along the Boushar waterfront places it between the city's cultural landmarks and the open gulf, a threshold between urban life and something far more elemental.

What stays is the sense of space. Not emptiness, but deliberate stillness, a property where every sightline, every surface, every stretch of water has been considered. The Chedi Muscat does not compete for attention. It simply occupies its ground with a clarity that makes everything around it feel sharper.

What we love about this stay

There's a quietness to The Chedi Muscat that feels earned rather than engineered—a property where traditional Omani architecture meets a restrained, contemporary hand, and the result is something that breathes. Earth tones, soft textures, and water features thread through the grounds in a way that pulls your eye naturally toward the sea, never competing with it. It's a place where six restaurants feel less like excess and more like genuine range, letting you drift between Arabic spice and Asian precision without leaving the resort's unhurried rhythm. The multiple pools each carry a different energy, which says something about how thoughtfully the spaces are drawn. What lingers is the sense that the property doesn't perform luxury—it simply inhabits it, shaped by the coast and the warm Omani air that moves through everything.
