The San Juan River bends through the southern Colorado Rockies, and along its banks, steam rises from the earth in slow, persistent columns. The Springs Resort & Spa sits directly above the world's deepest geothermal hot spring, a distinction verified by the Guinness Book of World Records, and the entire property is organized around this singular geological gift. Twenty-five soaking pools cascade across the riverside landscape, each fed naturally by the mineral-rich waters below and each held at a different temperature. Some are intimate, tucked among rock formations. Others open wide to unobstructed views of the river and the surrounding peaks. The effect is less manicured spa compound and more primal landscape made comfortable.
Accommodations range from well-appointed hotel rooms to standalone luxury loft suites, many offering direct views of the river or the mountains that frame the town of Pagosa Springs. The property also features a full-service spa where treatments incorporate the same geothermal mineral water that defines the soaking experience, extending the therapeutic identity of the resort into bodywork, facials, and wellness rituals. On-site dining is anchored by options that serve the resort's unhurried rhythm, giving guests reason to stay close rather than venture out between soaks. The pools themselves remain the gravitational center of daily life here. Guests move between temperatures, between sun and shade, between conversation and silence, often returning to the water multiple times throughout the day and well into the evening, when the steam catches the last light and the sky above the San Juan Mountains darkens into something vast.
Pagosa Springs itself is a small mountain town in southwestern Colorado, surrounded by the San Juan National Forest and within reach of Wolf Creek Ski Area, one of Colorado's snowiest resorts. The region draws hikers, fly fishers, and those seeking proximity to wilderness without pretense. The town carries a quiet, unpretentious character that mirrors the resort's own identity, rooted more in the natural world than in design spectacle or social performance.
What lingers after a stay at The Springs Resort & Spa is not the memory of any single amenity but the cumulative effect of hours spent in geothermal water with mountains in every sightline. The body remembers the mineral warmth long after the visit ends. The mind holds onto the sound of the river, the shifting temperatures pool to pool, the particular stillness that settles over a place where the earth itself provides the experience.

What we love about this stay
There's something quietly radical about a place where the earth itself does the work of unwinding you. Fifteen outdoor pools, each with its own temperature and mineral character, spread across a property that sits right against the San Juan Mountains — it's not a curated wellness concept so much as a geological fact you happen to get to soak in. The mood here isn't manicured calm; it's the unforced stillness that comes from warm water, cold mountain air, and a sky that feels absurdly large. You drift between pools the way you'd drift between thoughts, unhurried, finding the one that fits. It's the kind of place that suits people who don't need much programming to feel restored.

We LOVE this place! We’ve stayed in summer and winter and can’t to go back this summer when the new builds are open. Everyone is amazing: Dieter & Lindsay at the Barefoot grill Hannah, Nikki, Angela, Jen from Cafe Rosie, Lisa, Jess, Gloria, Maria & Sofia from the spa Tina our housekeeper Kevin at the inside bar Service is top notch everywhere you go. You can tell all of the staff are in just the right position by their AMAZING customer service and well they tend to guests and they were all so friendly. The variety of tubs was wonderful and so relaxing, even in busy season there is plenty of room and options. Great place to get away, relax and enjoy surroundings and the people you’re with.

Springs Resort and Spa is a great getaway. Relaxing atmosphere, exceptional service, and of course the hot springs. Just want to say Jillian at the front desk ensured we were checked in quickly and provided all relevant information for our stay. Thanks to Mary C, our room was immaculate. The staff at the Cafe also provided exceptional service especially Nessa, Angela, and Nikki. Thanks for you do and the excellent meals being served. Recommend if you haven’t visited Pagosa, do so and stay at the Springs Resort, you’ll love it.

Amazing little getaway! We only stayed for one night, but I could stay here forever! All of the staff members were super kind and seemed to enjoy their jobs! Jillian checked us in (even a little early which was awesome!) and gave us the low down on the resort and all of the amenities. We immediately went into the springs which were all very clean and relaxing! We ordered a few drinks and relaxed all night soaking in all the pools. We later got some dinner which was way better than I usually expect at a resort. Shout out to the kitchen staff Daniel, Noah and Alex for their delicious food and fast friendly service! Overall great experience and can’t wait to come back!

Lovely resort, good location for town. We stayed in a two bedroom suite that was just outside the hot springs area. The resort is a really nice location that is close to town, with just a short walk over the bridge. There were a couple of great places to check out nearby, like the lovely coffee house/gift shop. The hot springs overlook the river and town, and there are a variety of pools and temperatures to choose from. I’m an early riser and it was so peaceful in the mornings, especially soaking and watching the sun rise! The rooms were a bit dated, but the beds were comfortable, it was quiet, and we had everything we needed including a nice little kitchenette.
