My family had an absolute AMAZING time in the house, it was so hard to leave…lol. Loved our stay, everything was perfect.

The approach alone tells you something. The road climbs through Malibu's coastal canyons, past chaparral and ocean glimpses, before arriving at Carbon Mesa by Stay Awhile Villas, a private residence perched high above the Pacific where the landscape feels both wild and deeply serene. This is not a hotel, not a resort. It is a home, thoughtfully appointed and made available to those who want the Malibu coastline without compromise, with space to breathe and no one else's timeline to follow.
The property offers the kind of privacy and scale that defines the best of Malibu's residential architecture. Expansive living areas open to outdoor spaces where the horizon is uninterrupted ocean. The kitchen is fully equipped for long, unhurried meals prepared at your own pace, and the layout encourages the sort of gathering that happens naturally when the setting is right. Bedrooms are generous, designed for rest after days spent between salt water and sunlight. Every room feels connected to the landscape outside, with natural light and clean sightlines that keep the Pacific in view. The outdoor spaces are where Carbon Mesa truly distinguishes itself. Whether it is morning coffee with the fog still burning off the water below or an evening spent watching the sun drop behind Catalina, the terraces and grounds feel like an extension of the coastline itself.
Malibu's Carbon Mesa neighborhood sits along a stretch of coast known for its relative seclusion, positioned between the busier corridors of central Malibu and the quieter reaches of the northern shoreline. The area's hiking trails wind through the Santa Monica Mountains, and some of Southern California's most iconic surf breaks are minutes away. Local dining, farm stands, and the easygoing culture of the Pacific Coast Highway are all within close reach, though the temptation to stay put is considerable.
Stay Awhile Villas has built its collection around the idea that the best travel experiences often feel like coming home to a place you have never been. Carbon Mesa captures that sensibility with clarity. There is no front desk, no lobby, no programming. What remains is the house, the view, and a rhythm that belongs entirely to you. It is the kind of place where days lose their shape in the best possible way, where the only schedule is the one set by the tides and the light.

There's a particular quality to a house that was built to blur boundaries — between indoors and out, between gathering and solitude, between staying somewhere and actually living there. Carbon Mesa has that quality. It's a European-inflected villa perched in Malibu's hills, designed with the kind of intentionality that reveals itself slowly: the island kitchen that feels like the true center of the home, the primary suite with its fireplace and dual bathrooms suggesting a life unhurried, the wine cellar tucked away for those evenings that don't need a plan. The infinity pool edging toward the Pacific is the obvious showpiece, but what stays with you is the sense that every space here — fire pit, sauna, even the home gym — exists to serve a mood rather than check a box. It's a house for people who want proximity without performance, comfort at a scale that still feels personal.

Beautiful villa

It was a wonderful stay. The house is lovely - roomy - well appointed. The one drawback was the ask for an extra 100 dollars a day to heat the pool. It is sold as an amenity and should be usable for the fee proposed.

We had an amazing time celebrating my 40th birthday at the Property. It has an open layout with many access points to the backyard. Poole heating did not work as described in the management team promptly refunded our payment without issue. Four king size beds which true luxury for our guests that came to stay with us! Will definitely stay here again with a large group in the Malibu area.
