Some properties announce themselves with architecture or grandeur. Black Butterfly announces itself with space and stillness. This is a private residence designed around the elemental pleasures of water, warmth, and open sky. The name itself hints at transformation, but the experience is more grounded than that. It is a place built for long weekends that unfold without agenda, where the hours between afternoon and evening feel deliberately unhurried.
The property centers on a handful of carefully considered outdoor amenities that define the rhythm of a stay. A private pool anchors the grounds, offering a place to cool off during warm afternoons. Nearby, a dedicated firepit area creates a natural gathering point after dark, the kind of space that draws conversation without effort. The spa facilities add a layer of physical restoration, giving guests the option to move between water, heat, and open air without ever leaving the property. And then there is the stargazing, which is not so much a programmed experience as a condition of the setting itself. The skies here are dark enough, and the nights quiet enough, that looking up becomes part of the evening ritual.
Black Butterfly operates as a full private residence, meaning the entire property is yours for the duration of your stay. There are no shared lobbies or neighboring guests. The layout is designed to give small groups or couples the feeling of having their own compound, with indoor living spaces that open naturally onto the outdoor areas. The result is a property where inside and outside feel continuous, where a morning that begins at the pool can drift toward the spa and settle, hours later, around the firepit without any sense of transition.
What stays with you after a visit to Black Butterfly is not any single feature but the quality of attention the property pays to slowness. The pool is not an afterthought. The firepit is not decorative. The night sky is not incidental. Each element has been positioned to reward presence, to make the act of being still feel like the most intentional thing you could do.

There's something disarming about a property that borrows from eastern, western, and modern architectural traditions and somehow lands on a look that feels entirely its own — galvanized steel catching desert light against smooth stucco, all of it sitting on two acres of Yucca Valley quiet. Black Butterfly doesn't try to compete with the landscape; it frames it, with large windows that treat the rugged terrain like something worth paying attention to. The spaces feel both expansive and intimate, which is a hard balance to strike and usually isn't. At night, the desert sky here isn't an amenity — it's the whole point, the kind of darkness that makes the Milky Way feel almost confrontational in its clarity. It's a place that suits people who want their luxury unhurried and a little raw around the edges.

We had such an amazing stay and absolutely loved the house! Everything was beautiful and relaxing. The hot tub lights weren’t working during our visit, but it really didn’t matter because the pool lights created such a cozy vibe. We’d happily stay here again!

Beautiful modern house. The rooms are spacious and squeaky clean. The garage is amazing for the hot JT summer. It was amazing to be able to go into my car without feeling roasted.
