Such a cozy clean space!
Eveything we needed while visiting Portland.
Bed was comfy and clean. Around a lot of cute stores, shops and food
Would come again!

There is a particular kind of ease that comes with staying somewhere that feels lived in rather than staged. Retro Charm is a two-bedroom residence tucked into the Hawthorne neighborhood of Portland, where vintage character meets genuine comfort in a home that rewards slow mornings and unhurried afternoons. The aesthetic leans mid-century without being precious about it. Think warm woods, analog textures, and a palette that feels collected over time rather than curated in a single afternoon. It is the kind of place where the design has personality, where each corner suggests someone with good taste actually lives here.
The layout accommodates up to four guests across two bedrooms, making it well suited for couples traveling together or a small family looking for more room than a hotel provides. A full kitchen invites real cooking, stocked with the essentials for anything from morning coffee to a proper dinner made with ingredients picked up from the neighborhood's independent grocers and specialty shops. Living spaces are comfortable and grounded, designed for evenings spent reading, planning the next day's wandering, or simply settling in after a long walk through the surrounding blocks. The residence delivers the fundamentals of a thoughtful short-term stay: reliable Wi-Fi, laundry access, and the kind of practical details that make a multi-night visit feel effortless.
Location is arguably the property's greatest asset. Hawthorne is one of Portland's most distinctive and walkable corridors, lined with independent bookstores, vintage shops, coffee roasters, neighborhood restaurants, and the sort of small businesses that give a street its identity. Stepping out the front door puts you immediately into the rhythm of the neighborhood rather than on the periphery of it. There is no need for a car to find a good meal, a great cup of coffee, or an afternoon's worth of browsing. The surrounding area connects easily to other parts of the city, but many guests find that Hawthorne itself provides more than enough to fill their days.
What stays with you after a few nights at Retro Charm is the feeling of having actually inhabited a neighborhood rather than merely visited a city. The residence trades spectacle for substance, offering a place that feels personal, rooted, and quietly confident in what it is. It is Portland at its most approachable, experienced from the inside out.

What stays with you here isn't grandeur — it's the tension between European refinement and Portland's distinctly unpolished energy. The interiors feel considered, with high-grade finishes and plush textiles that nod to a boutique hotel sensibility, yet the moment you step outside, you're folded into Hawthorne's bookstores, brewpubs, and café culture without any transition at all. That proximity is the whole point. This is a place for the traveler who wants to feel embedded, not hosted — someone who'd rather discover the literary heart of a neighborhood on foot than be driven to a curated highlight. The thoughtful inclusion of earplugs and a noise machine quietly acknowledges the trade-off of staying somewhere this alive, which is the kind of honesty that earns trust. You leave feeling less like a guest and more like someone who briefly lived here.

We had a great stay! Mike was proactive in his communication and made sure we had everything we needed. The place was really comfortable, private and the kitchen was well stocked!

Mike was an excellent host and most especially, a good communicator, which is what you need most in a host! Again, the space is beautiful and the art and sculpture in the apartment is quite high-end; kitchen amazing to use, like a full kitchen away from home, for sure
