Where stillness settles into the architecture of slow, unhurried days
Reserve this StayThe Onyx House: Secluded Villa, Pool & Yoga Deck
The approach to The Onyx House feels like a deliberate act of leaving the world behind. This secluded villa sits within a private, wooded setting, its architecture designed to blur the boundary between indoor living and the natural landscape that surrounds it. Clean lines and dark, grounded tones give the house its name and its character, a residence that feels both bold and quiet, contemporary in its design yet deeply attuned to the stillness of its surroundings.
Inside, the villa unfolds with the ease of a well-considered home rather than a staged retreat. Living spaces are open, airy, and filled with natural light, furnished with a restrained palette that lets the setting do the talking. The kitchen is fully equipped for guests who prefer to cook at their own pace, and the layout of the house encourages gathering as much as it does solitude. Bedrooms are private and comfortable, oriented to take advantage of the property's sense of seclusion. Every room feels intentional, each detail chosen to support a stay that moves at your own rhythm.
Outside, the property reveals its most defining features. A private pool serves as the centerpiece of the outdoor experience, set within a landscape that feels both curated and organic. The yoga deck offers a dedicated space for morning stretches, meditation, or simply sitting with a coffee as the day begins. The grounds around the house provide room to wander, read in the shade, or do nothing at all. There is a particular luxury in this kind of privacy, the freedom to move between sun and shade, water and stillness, without a schedule or an audience.
The Onyx House is best understood not as a hotel alternative but as a private residence calibrated for rest. It suits couples, small groups, or families seeking a home base that feels genuinely removed from the pace of daily life. Days here tend to organize themselves around simple pleasures: a late breakfast by the pool, an afternoon on the yoga deck, an evening spent cooking together in the kitchen with the windows open. The house does not announce itself. It simply holds space for the kind of unhurried time that most travel promises but rarely delivers.

What we love about this stay
There's something disarming about a place that gives you your own mountain. The Onyx House sits on two and a half acres of Joshua Tree's boulder-strewn landscape, wrapped in glass so the desert isn't just scenery — it's essentially a fourth wall in every room. The architecture leans into exposure rather than shelter, which takes a certain confidence, and the result is a property that feels less like a vacation rental and more like a deliberate act of framing the wild. Three bedrooms keep it intimate, and the heated saltwater pool and fire pit ground the evenings without competing with the sky. It's the kind of place where the landscape does the emotional heavy lifting, and the house is smart enough to stay out of the way.

My family enjoyed our stay in the Tiny House. It was very comfortable and relaxing. Also, the owner was very nice. The house was cozy, and we loved the pool, yard, hammock, swings, etc. I highly recommend it!

I had a wonderful week. The host was great. Check in was very easy and when I had a question he returned my call right away. He even checked in with me the following day to make sure all was going well and that I didn't have any questions or needs. The house was in a nice quiet area and I felt very safe, even when I was at a conference until very late at night. It was also located close to everything I wanted to do. I didn't use the pool but it looked very clean and well maintained. Indianapolis was also a fun town to visit!
