Stay Duvet
Some properties announce themselves. This one does the opposite. The Retreat is a residential escape designed around stillness, a place where the pace drops the moment you step through the door. The setting is unhurried, the surroundings are leafy and quiet, and the private yard offers the kind of open-air breathing room that most urban stays simply cannot provide. It is the sort of place you return to at the end of a long day of exploring and feel genuinely glad to be back.
The residence is thoughtfully arranged for comfort rather than spectacle. Clean, uncluttered interiors give way to a private outdoor space that becomes the true heart of the stay. The yard is yours alone, a place for morning coffee in the sun, an evening glass of wine, or simply sitting with a book while the light changes. Inside, the home is well-appointed and practical, with a full kitchen that invites you to cook with local ingredients, comfortable living areas for unwinding, and bedrooms that prioritize rest above all else. There is a simplicity to the layout that feels intentional, each room serving its purpose without unnecessary fuss.
Location is one of the property's quiet strengths. King Street is within easy walking distance, offering access to restaurants, shops, and the kind of neighborhood energy that rewards wandering on foot. The proximity means you can slip out for dinner or a drink and return home without needing a car, yet the street itself remains removed enough from the bustle that noise never follows you back. It is the balance that experienced travelers look for but rarely find: close enough to everything, far enough from everyone.
What lingers about The Retreat is not any single detail but the cumulative effect of a stay built around space and quiet. The private yard, the walkable surroundings, the absence of unnecessary complexity. It is a residence that understands the difference between luxury and comfort, and chooses comfort every time. You leave feeling rested in a way that has less to do with thread counts and more to do with the rare gift of uninterrupted time in a place that feels, even briefly, like your own.

What strikes you here is the particular quiet of a detached home just minutes from one of the South's most storied shopping streets — that rare Charleston arrangement where you're close enough to feel the city's pulse but removed enough to forget it entirely. The renovation is confident without being showy, blending modern design with a warmth that reads more like someone's carefully kept personal residence than a rental. The private backyard, shaded by palms, has the quality of a genuine secret — a tucked-away space that feels earned rather than staged. And the screened-in porch offers the kind of in-between moment Charleston does so well, where indoors and outdoors blur comfortably. It's a place that suits people who want to explore King Street on their own terms and then disappear into something genuinely their own.

This was a private place to stay with parking off the main road. The backyard sitting area was a nice private place to relax. In a great area and walkable to all major areas of Charleston.

We absolutely loved our stay here! The best part of this Airbnb is how private and peaceful the home is all while being close to the heart of the city. In addition the host went above and beyond in communication and proactively offering advice on places to go and where to eat. Would recommend this place to all!

We enjoyed our stay. Tight parking but it worked. We could walk to stores and King Street easy.

This is one of my favorite Airbnb rentals ever--that means all the stays including ones I didn't pay for. It was BETTER than the pics! The place is set back from the main road so it's quiet, peaceful, and very private. The backyard has not one but three places to sit and relax including an umbrella covered picnic table. The advantage to this is that as the sun moved throughout the day we always had a shady place to relax outside. I was able to sit comfortably outside and work and the privacy and quietness allowed me to get more work done in less hours than I do at home! The kitchen was designer all the way with everything you need. there was a french press AND a drip coffee, a toaster, blender (a lot of places I've stayed do not have blenders, surprisingly), two knife sets, full sets of dishes with bowls, plates, salad plates, and mugs. The beds were comfortable and offered two sleeping types (firm and soft) and they aren't stingy about pillows. would rate this a 10/10 if I could.
