Great stay. Was walkable to some restaurants we really like and a nice area with lots to do. Place was perfect for our 2 night stay in pdx!

The Hawthorne district has a way of pulling you in at sidewalk level. Food carts cluster at corners, independent shops line the boulevard, and the pace of the street feels unhurried but alive. Modern Hawthorne Studio sits right in the middle of it all, a compact, design-forward residence that places you within walking distance of the neighborhood's best offerings without ever feeling like you're staying somewhere temporary.
The studio itself is clean-lined and modern, thoughtfully laid out to make the most of its footprint. Managed by Stay Portland, the space is designed for guests who want the independence of a private residence paired with the ease of a well-considered short-term stay. Expect a functional kitchen, comfortable sleeping quarters, and the kind of streamlined aesthetic that favors simplicity over ornamentation. Everything you need is here, and nothing you don't. The result is a space that feels genuinely livable rather than staged, a place where you can settle in for a few nights or a few weeks without friction.
What makes this studio distinctive is less about the interiors and more about the address. Hawthorne Boulevard is one of Portland's most characterful corridors, known for its concentration of food carts, vintage shops, bookstores, cafés, and locally owned restaurants. The neighborhood rewards those who explore on foot, and the studio's location means you can step outside and immediately be part of the street's rhythm. Morning coffee, a late lunch at a nearby cart pod, an evening spent browsing the shops: the neighborhood becomes an extension of the space itself.
Staying at Modern Hawthorne Studio is less about retreat and more about integration. You wake up in a city that values independence, creativity, and good food, and your front door opens directly onto all of it. It is Portland at its most accessible, experienced not from a hotel lobby but from the kind of ground-level perspective that makes a place feel like your own.

What stays with you here is the tension between the studio's European minimalism and the maximalist neighborhood just outside — clean lines and high-grade finishes holding space for a district that's all bookstores, food carts, and craft beer. It's a deliberate contrast, and it works. The Hawthorne District doesn't need a curated hotel lobby to introduce itself; it seeps in through those wide windows, through the smell of roasted coffee drifting from nearby, through the unhurried rhythm of a Portland block that rewards aimless walking. This is a stay for the traveler who wants to disappear into a neighborhood rather than observe it from a distance, and who appreciates coming back to something quiet and considered at the end of it.
