Lots of great space wonderful porch area to sit and relax, we had a great time with our family. Close to old town and all the restaurants.

There are homes that occupy a neighborhood, and then there are homes that define one. This six-bedroom residence in Northwest Portland belongs firmly to the latter category. Once the private home of a former Portland mayor, the property carries a sense of civic grandeur that reveals itself not through ostentation but through scale, craftsmanship, and the unmistakable weight of a house that has hosted lives of consequence. From the moment you step inside, the architecture speaks in a register that modern construction rarely attempts.
The NW Portland Icon offers six bedrooms spread across a generous floor plan that accommodates groups, families, and gatherings with genuine ease. Common spaces are built for both congregation and retreat, with living areas that reward long evenings of conversation and quieter corners where you can disappear with a book and a glass of something worth savoring. The kitchen is equipped for serious cooking, lending itself naturally to shared meals prepared at your own pace. Throughout the home, period details coexist with the practical comforts a modern stay demands, creating an environment that feels both historically resonant and genuinely livable.
Northwest Portland provides one of the city's most walkable and rewarding backdrops. The neighborhood is known for its tree-lined streets, independent shops, and a dining scene that reflects Portland's broader commitment to ingredients, craft, and creative ambition. Coffee, wine, and food are never far from the front door, and the area's character rewards those who prefer exploring on foot. The surrounding blocks carry a residential calm that belies the neighborhood's proximity to the energy and culture of the wider city.
What stays with you after a visit here is the feeling of inhabiting a home that was built to matter. Not a vacation rental dressed up for photographs, but a genuine piece of Portland's story, offered to you for a few nights or more. The rooms hold their history lightly, and the days unfold at whatever rhythm you set. You cook when you want to cook, gather when you want to gather, and let the city come to you on your own terms. It is a rare thing to stay somewhere that feels both significant and unhurried, and this house manages both without ever announcing either.

There's a particular quality to staying in a home that has actually been lived in by someone who shaped a city—it's not museum-like gravitas, but something quieter, a sense that the walls have absorbed real decisions and real dinners. This former mayor's residence in Portland's Alphabet District carries that weight without being heavy about it. The woodwork and period details feel earned rather than staged, and the six bedrooms spread out in a way that lets a group be together without being on top of each other. What lingers is the tension between the private garden's stillness and the fact that NW 23rd Avenue's coffee shops and restaurants are just steps away—a home that holds you close while the city hums at the edges.

This was the perfect place for a big crew of friends visiting for a long weekend! Comfortable beds, plenty of pillows and towels, and fun art at the house, which is just a short walk from 23rd, a vibrant neighborhood with lots of great restaurants and shops.
