Really nice place

The approach feels residential in the best possible way. A four-bedroom home set within walking distance of NW 23rd Avenue, Historic Meets Modern carries the kind of architectural character that Portland's older neighborhoods do so well. Original details meet contemporary updates throughout, creating a space that feels genuinely lived-in rather than staged, a place where the bones of the house tell one story and the interiors tell another.
Inside, the layout accommodates groups and families with four bedrooms spread across the home, offering enough room for everyone to find their own corner without losing the sense of togetherness that draws people to a house over a hotel. Common spaces invite gathering, whether over morning coffee or late-evening conversation, and the kitchen stands ready for those who prefer to cook with ingredients sourced from nearby markets and shops. The design threads a careful line between preserving the home's historic identity and introducing the kind of modern comforts that make a stay feel effortless.
The location is the other half of the story. NW 23rd Avenue is one of Portland's most walkable corridors, lined with independent boutiques, restaurants, coffee shops, and neighborhood bars that reflect the city's creative, unpretentious character. From the front door, the avenue is a short walk rather than a drive, placing you within easy reach of the dining and shopping that define this part of the city. The surrounding streets carry their own quiet appeal, tree-lined and residential, offering the sense of being embedded in a real Portland neighborhood rather than passing through one.
What stays with you about Historic Meets Modern is the balance it strikes without announcing it. The house doesn't try to be a hotel, and it doesn't try to be a museum piece. It simply offers a well-considered home in one of Portland's most appealing neighborhoods, a place where four bedrooms, original architecture, and a prime Northwest Portland location come together in a way that feels both grounded and generous.

There's something genuinely disarming about a house that was built for a World's Fair and now sits quietly on the edge of NW 23rd, one of Portland's most walkable and character-rich streets. The intricate moldings and vintage hardwood floors carry a weight that no renovation can manufacture, and yet the modern finishes never feel like they're competing—they just settle in beside the original details as if they've always belonged. Four bedrooms give the place a real sense of breathing room, and the gourmet kitchen feels designed for someone who actually cooks, not just someone who wants the photo. What lingers is the contrast: a home with genuine architectural history, steps from boutiques and restaurants, that still manages to feel like a private retreat rather than a stage.

It was our first time visiting Portland and we’re so glad we got this Airbnb. We hadn’t realized that it was located on the 15 and 20 bus line which took us into downtown, Hawthorne, Richmond and Mount Tabor!
Around the airbnb, there are plenty of restaurants and shops on 21st and 23rd street and not to mention the beautiful rose and Japanese garden in Washington park!
The airbnb itself was just perfect…we had 4 different groups in our party including a 11 month baby and we never felt crowded! Our host Jordan, did an amazing job accommodating our needs. He was so helpful with our early check-in and pack-n-play request for the baby. He made sure there were plenty of towels, toilet paper, dish washing and laundry pods! Everything we needed to stay there for the entire week. Would love to stay here again in the future.

The place was absolutely perfect—beautiful, historic, walkable to great restaurants and shops. Jordan was helpful and responsive and even offered a baby kit to make traveling with a little one a little easier. We’ll definitely be back!

Elder millennials who stayed for a Bachelorette trip. The bride loved her "suite" on the ground floor, we took the 3 upstairs bedrooms. Beds were all memory foam feeling, like firm enough for if you have grandma with you, but also I slept great and I prefer a soft bed.
We had a great time, facilities were great. Location was great. Highly recommend. Would stay again.
My one note - Beware PARKING, this is Burnside. The signs are not as they seem, just because it's "free" at that time doesn't mean you won't need a permit/to pay because there's a local event you probably don't know about - check the pay stations. Portland is cracking down....lol.
