Excellent location! Could walk to King Street and jog to the water. House was updated but kept its old southern feel.

Stay Duvet
The front door opens and the timeline becomes legible. The Elliott is an 1840s residence that has been thoughtfully renovated to preserve its historic bones while introducing the comforts and sensibilities of contemporary living. Original architectural details sit alongside modern finishes, creating a space where age and intention coexist without competing. The result is a home that feels both rooted and refreshed, a place where the character of nearly two centuries has not been erased but rather brought into sharper focus.
Inside, the renovation reveals itself in careful choices. The layout invites you to settle in rather than simply pass through. Living spaces are generous and well-considered, designed for gathering as much as for quiet retreat. The kitchen is fully equipped for those who prefer to cook at their own pace, and common areas are furnished with an eye toward comfort that doesn't sacrifice style. Bedrooms offer a sense of calm, with thoughtful touches that make each room feel like more than just a place to sleep. Throughout, natural light moves through the house in a way that shifts the atmosphere from morning to evening, lending each hour its own character.
The Elliott functions as a full private residence, meaning the entire home is yours for the duration of your stay. This is not a shared space or a single room within a larger property. It is a house with the privacy, freedom, and rhythm that only a standalone home can offer. You set the schedule. You decide when the coffee is made, when the doors open, when the evening winds down. For families, small groups, or couples seeking more room than a hotel suite can provide, the format is particularly well suited.
What lingers after a stay at The Elliott is not a single detail but a feeling of proportion. The renovation never overreaches. The history never feels heavy. There is a quietness to the way the house holds you, an unhurried sense that the best version of this building was always waiting beneath the surface, and that someone finally had the patience to find it.

There's a particular quietness to an 1840s building that's been loved rather than just preserved—original hardwood underfoot, intricate moldings overhead, and a scale that feels domestic rather than institutional. With only 26 rooms, The Elliott House Inn carries the intimacy of someone's home, not a hotel, and that distinction matters in a city as layered as Charleston. The cobblestoned courtyard anchors everything here, a pocket of calm just steps from King Street's energy. You feel the neighborhood—Cannonborough's unhurried personality—more than you feel a brand. The evening wine and cheese in that courtyard is the kind of small, unpretentious ritual that fosters real conversation among strangers. It's a place where Charleston doesn't perform for you; it simply lets you in.

The condo is really cute and was perfect for our family of 4. Walking distance to upper King street. Host was very quick to respond to any questions we had. Hope to stay there again soon.

Great little house for a downtown visit to Charleston. The quaint and private backyard is a very nice touch. Place was clean and the bathroom was nice.
