The approach alone tells you something has shifted. Villa Reina by Fieldtrip sits high above the Pacific, a sprawling ocean villa where architecture opens dramatically toward the water and every sightline pulls you seaward. This is not a hotel, not a resort, but a private residence scaled for gathering, designed for the kind of stay where days lose their edges and the horizon becomes your clock. The property commands its coastal perch with confidence, its layout oriented to maximize the relationship between built space and open sky.
Inside, the villa unfolds with generous proportions and a sense of deliberate ease. Bedrooms are appointed for comfort rather than spectacle, with natural materials and clean lines that let the setting do the work. Outdoor living spaces dominate the experience here, from terraces that tier down toward the ocean to a private pool that seems to merge with the Pacific below. The kitchen and dining areas invite long meals prepared and shared at your own pace, while open-air lounging spaces create pockets of shade and sun throughout the day. Villa Reina operates on the logic of a home rather than a hospitality property, which means the rhythm is entirely yours. Fieldtrip, the team behind the villa, curates each residence with an eye toward design-forward living and a hands-off hospitality philosophy, providing the infrastructure for an exceptional stay without inserting themselves into the experience unnecessarily.
The surrounding coastline offers the raw, salt-sprayed beauty that draws travelers to Mexico's Pacific shores. Whether it is the sound of waves reaching you from the terrace at dawn or the quality of late-afternoon light pooling across the water, the setting delivers a constant, ambient drama that never feels forced. The geography here is bold, with rugged cliffs meeting deep blue water, and the villa's elevated position ensures you experience it from a place of both proximity and remove.
What stays with you after Villa Reina is not any single detail but a feeling of proportion. The scale of the ocean matched by the generosity of the space. The warmth of shared meals balanced against long, solitary hours watching the water change color. It is a place that asks very little of you and, in return, gives you back the kind of unstructured time that most travel only promises.

It's the architecture's refusal to compete with the Pacific that gets you — sun-bleached oak, hand-laid stone, and all that glass simply stepping aside so the ocean can do what it does. The infinity pool's vanishing edge plays a visual trick that genuinely never dulls, and the interiors move with natural light in a way that makes you aware of time passing slowly rather than slipping away. Bedrooms feel like separate cocoons, each one oriented toward the water so mornings begin wordlessly, just you and a fractured sheet of sunlight on the surface below. This is a place designed around subtraction — fewer distractions, fewer demands — until what remains is just presence, the salt air, and a rare, almost startling sense of being exactly where you belong.

Great place, wonderful views. Parking situation was a little unclear across the two apps but host communicated quickly and resolved the issue.

We had an amazing time at Fieldtrip! The views were amazing and we spent great quality family time :) the kitchen is well stocked and had everything I needed. Entire family had a great time, kids loved playing chess at the table. I would highly recommend this place!

I have no words for how much we enjoyed our stay, but I will give it a try!
Stayed for two nights with immediate families for my small wedding weekend and my family couldn’t have been happier with the space. The views are incredible, a short drive to our ceremony at a Malibu beach, with the space to share meals together.
We chose this home for the views but truly, the entire space was so comfortable, clean, and the neighborhood was kind and welcoming.
The hosts are prompt and helpful in their responses and directions. It’s clear they value their guests’ experience.
Asking my mom what she would rate this out of 5 stars, she said “It can’t be less than 10 stars.” I would if I could.

This home is even more beautiful than it is in the images, and the views are stunning! You can also hear the waves from the property, making an evening on the terrace magical. Can’t recommend this place enough, the hosts are wonderful and respond in minutes.
