We felt right at home in Coleman’s lodgings. He communicated perfectly. Our expectations were surpassed by his little touches..

Ghost Town Casitas
The road narrows as you approach Terlingua, past crumbling stone ruins and hand-painted signs, the landscape opening into something vast and unhurried. Big Bend Escape sits within this spare, sun-struck terrain, a compact glamping retreat built from adobe and corrugated metal that feels less like a conventional accommodation and more like a desert outpost designed for stillness. The casita is air-conditioned, a meaningful detail in this part of West Texas, and its layout is straightforward but thoughtfully composed, offering a private sleeping space with comfortable bedding alongside an outdoor adobe soaking bath that anchors the entire experience. You arrive, you settle, and the desert begins to do its work.
Part of Ghost Town Casitas, the property occupies a stretch of land near the storied Terlingua Ghost Town, where a handful of galleries, cantinas, and gathering spots have grown up around the remnants of a historic mining settlement. The casita itself is modest in scale but generous in its sense of privacy. The outdoor bath, constructed from hand-finished adobe, sits beneath open sky, and bathing here after dark, with nothing above but a density of stars that feels almost implausible, is the kind of experience that stays with you longer than most resort amenities ever could. The interiors lean into the honesty of the setting, with natural materials, minimal furnishings, and the kind of warmth that comes from design that doesn't try to override its surroundings.
Big Bend National Park is a short drive away, offering miles of hiking through desert canyons, along the Rio Grande, and into the Chisos Mountains. The proximity to the park gives the property a clear purpose beyond rest: this is a base camp for some of the most dramatic landscape in the American Southwest. Back in Terlingua, the social life is casual and communal, with the famous Starlight Theatre and a scattering of local bars and eateries providing evening options that feel distinctly of this place. The rhythm here is slow, shaped by heat and distance and the particular quiet of a desert that has outlasted every attempt to tame it.
What lingers is the privacy, the sky, and the uncomplicated pleasure of a well-placed bath under a canopy of stars. Big Bend Escape doesn't compete with the landscape. It simply gives you a reason to stay close to it.

There's something disarming about a place that doesn't try to be more than it is — a renovated trailer in a ghost town, stripped of pretense but full of intention. The design here leans into the contradiction: adobe-style bathhouse, plush bedding, a fire pit carved into the ground rather than sitting on top of it. It feels like someone with real taste and a deep attachment to this landscape built exactly the retreat they'd want to come back to. Terlingua rewards a certain kind of traveler — one who finds comfort in vastness, who doesn't need a lobby or a concierge to feel looked after. The desert sky does most of the work here, and the property is wise enough to stay out of its way.

Charmingly remodeled trailer and really cool bathroom. It is described perfectly. The outside deck was very comfortable with good views and the sails just plain look cool and held up in the gale force winds that stopped us from tent camping that night. It was set up nicely for a trailer in that you could exit the queen bed on both sides, no climbing over the other person. Not crowded or claustrophobic in there at all. Also, it was tall enough for my 6'4" partner to stand comfortably. Well stocked for coffee making, always important.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay, the room was beautiful, exactly as described and a great value. The host, Coleman, was very kind and helpful. We encountered some small issues due to inclement weather, and Coleman was extremely accommodating. We would definitely stay here again!
