These cabins are incredibly beautiful and well designed. The sauna and cold plunge was the experience of a lifetime. We felt like we were at a resort. We enjoyed our time and looking forward to planning a trip back!

The road narrows before the trees take over. By the time you reach The Fish Haus, the world has already simplified itself. This tiny cabin sits within The Cabins at Blacktail, a collection of small-footprint retreats nestled in a Montana forest setting where the architecture is deliberately modest and the landscape does most of the talking. The cabin's compact footprint is the point. Clad in wood and designed with the proportions of a traditional fishing hut, it delivers exactly what its name suggests: a pared-back shelter built for people who came for the woods, the water, and the stillness between.
Inside, the layout is efficient and warm. The Fish Haus accommodates two guests comfortably, with a sleeping area, a small kitchenette for simple meals, and thoughtful details that make the tight square footage feel intentional rather than constrained. Expect clean lines, natural materials, and windows that frame the surrounding forest like something worth paying attention to. Heat keeps the space livable through cooler Montana evenings, and the cabin's design encourages a rhythm of spending time outdoors and retreating back in when you're ready for quiet. There is no excess here, and that absence is precisely the luxury.
The broader property offers shared outdoor spaces where guests can gather around fire pits, settle into the landscape, and experience Montana's forests without the formality of a traditional resort. The surrounding area is rich with opportunities for fly fishing, hiking, and wildlife observation, though the property itself is best understood as a base camp for stillness rather than adventure. You are in Montana's western reaches, where dense stands of pine and open meadows define the terrain, and the pace of life slows to something closer to the land's own tempo.
What stays with you after a night at The Fish Haus is not a list of amenities or a grand architectural gesture. It is the scale of the thing. A cabin small enough to remind you how little you actually need, set in a forest large enough to make that realization feel like freedom. The sound of wind through conifers. The absence of noise. The rare, particular comfort of a space that knows exactly what it is and offers nothing more.

There's something disarming about a place this small that manages to feel this intentional. The Fish Haus isn't trying to be a resort — it's a tiny cabin in a Montana forest that leans fully into what that means, blending rustic texture with genuine comfort in a way that feels considered rather than contrived. The surrounding woodland gives it a sense of enclosure that's more intimate than isolating, and the creekside area they call The Island adds a quiet, slightly whimsical layer — a place to sit with nothing but water sounds and leaf rustle. It's the kind of retreat that suits someone who doesn't need much square footage to feel restored, just the right atmosphere and a real connection to where they are.

We loved celebrating our 1st wedding anniversary at the cabins! We stayed in the Fish Haus but all of the cabins were wonderful! This is a great location to unwind and relax, and we had the entire place to ourselves which felt extra special. I think even if we had neighbors or others visiting this location and cabin still would have been very private. We loved the outdoor space and the beautifully put together and well thought out common areas. Including the forest and creek area and the walking path towards the sauna and cold plunge pool. I have already been recommending this location and cabin to friends and family and will continue to for a great weekend getaway spot or even to stay for holiday retreats. <br/>Julie was extremely responsive and helpful in answering questions and recommendations for this area and the cabins are beautifully and cozily put together and thought out. 10/10 would recommend!!! 🧡

To have had the opportunity to stay in one of these tremendous cabins on a spectacular property such as this is, with hosts like George & Julie was a heart warming experience. Lakeside is a quaint and comfortable town; the views are superior. Thank you George & Julie for all the attention to detail you put in to the Fish Haus & your beautiful property and for making us feel like special guests. It was an absolutely perfect vacation.

Incredible! One of the best Airbnb’s I’ve ever stayed in. You can really tell that so much thought went into creating these. The sauna is an amazing addition to the space!! We were bummed to leave!

Fish Haus was amazing. So comfortable and had everything we needed. There were so many cute & personal touches. We loved sitting outside & wandering down to the island. The guidebook was also so helpful! Would highly recommend to anyone.
