Great location close to the river. The location is comfortable, cozy and we had everything that we needed. I would stay here again.

The approach is unhurried. A residential street gives way to water, and the Riverfront Getaway sits right where the two meet. This is a property built around proximity to the river, a home designed for small groups who want to wake up close to moving water and spend their days without a fixed agenda. The space sleeps four comfortably, with an interior that favors warmth and practicality over excessive ornamentation. It is a place that feels lived-in from the moment you arrive, the kind of home where you set your bags down and immediately understand the rhythm of the stay.
The layout is straightforward and well-considered. Living spaces open naturally toward the riverfront, giving you a constant visual connection to the water. The furnishings are comfortable and unpretentious, arranged to encourage long mornings with coffee and unhurried evenings. The kitchen is equipped for guests who prefer to cook their own meals, making trips to local markets part of the daily ritual rather than a chore. For those traveling with dogs, the property is explicitly welcoming, a detail that speaks to the overall character of the place. This is not a home that asks you to tiptoe around white furniture or keep the windows closed. It invites you to bring the full texture of your life along.
The riverfront setting defines much of how time is spent here. Depending on the season and conditions, the water becomes the backdrop for morning walks, afternoon reading, or simply sitting outside and watching the light change. The surrounding area offers the kind of quiet that travelers often say they want but rarely find, a genuine absence of noise that makes conversation easier and sleep deeper. Portland, the nearest urban anchor, provides access to dining, culture, and supplies when you want them, but the Riverfront Getaway is best appreciated by those who are happy to stay close to home for most of their visit.
What lingers after a stay here is the simplicity. The Riverfront Getaway does not try to impress with design statements or curated experiences. It offers something more elusive: a well-located, comfortable home where the river is always just outside, your dog is welcome at your feet, and the days unfold at whatever pace you choose. It is the kind of place you remember not for any single detail, but for how easily you settled into it.

There's a particular quality to a cabin that sits directly on a river — it reorganizes your sense of time. At this Salmon River retreat in Welches, the water is constant company, not backdrop, and the effect is immediate. The vaulted ceilings and warm wood tones feel genuinely lived-in rather than styled, with a vintage interior that suggests decades of careful attention rather than a weekend renovation. It's the kind of place where plush furnishings and rustic bones coexist without contradiction. Private river access means the landscape isn't something you admire from a distance — you're in it, feet in the current if you want. The fire pit after dark, the pine-heavy air, the seasonal shifts that repaint everything from visit to visit — it all adds up to a place that rewards return trips and quiet moods equally. What lingers isn't any single feature but the cumulative feeling of being unhurried and genuinely proximate to something alive.

Good spot right by the Salmon River if you’re just looking to stay a night or 2 at the most. The pictures on the listing looked decent but the min we walked in, the cabin is very old, tiny, and outdated with a musty smell. Uneven floors with very old outdated appliances, furnitures, etc. The newest looking room is probably the bathroom. This home is new to Airbnb so it had only one review when we booked. There was an open loft area above the living room to access the attic which we felt uncomfortable with. It was locked but with how old the cabin and surrounding homes were, never know what can be hiding up there. The best part of our stay was the river view and waking up the next morning to rain on the very low roof, something we’re not used to hearing so closely, it was relaxing.
