Alpine A-Frame - midcentury cabin by Lake Raponda
The road narrows before it arrives. Through a corridor of birch and maple, past the last stretch of pavement, the Alpine A-Frame appears like something preserved from another era of American leisure. Built in the midcentury tradition, its steeply pitched roofline rises from the wooded hillside with a geometry that feels both dramatic and completely at ease in its surroundings. This is a cabin in the truest sense, set on a private lot near the shores of Lake Raponda in Wilmington, Vermont, where the southern Green Mountains meet a landscape of glacial ponds, forest trails, and small-town quiet.
The interior leans into the A-frame's defining angles. Vaulted ceilings draw the eye upward through exposed beams, while large windows pull the surrounding canopy into nearly every room. The layout is compact but considered, with a fully equipped kitchen, a living area anchored by a wood-burning fireplace, and sleeping arrangements that accommodate small groups or families comfortably. The design carries a vintage warmth, furnished with an eye toward character rather than catalog perfection. You cook here. You read here. You let the hours drift without agenda. A deck extends the living space outdoors, offering a place to settle in with morning coffee or watch the light shift through the trees as the afternoon stretches on.
Lake Raponda sits just a short walk away, a spring-fed lake surrounded by forest with a clarity and stillness that reward early risers and late-afternoon swimmers alike. In warmer months, the area invites kayaking, fishing, and long days spent at the water's edge. When the season turns, Wilmington positions you within easy reach of Mount Snow and the Harriman Reservoir, where cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, and downhill runs replace the summer rhythm. The town of Wilmington itself offers a handful of local restaurants, shops, and the kind of New England charm that has aged gracefully rather than commercially. Brattleboro, with its arts scene and farm-to-table dining, is a manageable drive when you want a change of pace.
The Alpine A-Frame belongs to a style of getaway that resists overproduction. Managed by the Wildwood Collective, the property is maintained with care and presented without pretense. There are no concierge services or curated welcome baskets vying for your attention. What it offers instead is rarer: genuine seclusion, a structure with personality, and the kind of setting where Vermont's landscape does the work of restoration on its own terms. You leave here quieter than you arrived, carrying the particular stillness of a place that never asked you to be impressed.

There's a particular kind of honesty to an A-frame — the geometry itself feels like a declaration of simplicity, and this one leans into that with mid-century furnishings and a wood-burning fireplace that anchors the whole mood. It's a cabin that feels collected rather than decorated, the kind of place where a record player and P.F. Candle fragrances sit naturally alongside organic linens and a Casper mattress without any of it feeling performative. The scale is intimate — two bedrooms, four guests max — which keeps things unhurried and personal. Out back, a firepit with provided firewood and Adirondack chairs offer a quiet counterpoint to the nearby lake and trails. It's the sort of stay that rewards people who find comfort in restraint and don't need a long amenities list to feel taken care of.

It was a beautiful place and near a nice little quaint town that had many shops and cool stuff to see. We had a wonderful time and the host was very understanding of our late check in time which was very helpful.

The A frame is located in a great part of Vermont, with lots of good hiking trails and food options nearby. The lake at the bottom of the hill from the house (about a half mile away) is especially beautiful and feels undiscovered by tourists.

My family loved our stay at the Alpine A-Frame. We have an 18-month year-old and we found our stay tranquil and relaxing. We visited in the winter; some reviews discuss the floor heater - we didn't have to use it (with temperatures in the 20s) so it wasn't a huge concern for our toddler but you should be cognizant of it if you have a little one. Other than that - this was an awesome trip for us - very relaxing and enjoyable - I cannot recommend enough!

The Alpine A-Frame was the perfect place for a weekend ski weekend getaway! The home itself was so unique & the fireplace made the ambiance perfect! We had a slight power issue upon arrival but with quick response from the owners it was resolved within minutes! The location was easy to find, the welcome guide was perfect & the downtown area was super cute! Would definitely visit again!
