Amazing place! So relaxing and peaceful! Loved the sounds of the river while we chilled by the fire and played games.

Riverside Cartecay Cottage
The sound arrives before the view does. Water moving over stone, steady and unhurried, the kind of ambient presence that recalibrates your breathing before you've even stepped inside. Riverside Cartecay Cottage sits directly along the Cartecay River, a private residence where the landscape does most of the talking. The setting is pure north Georgia mountain country, wooded and green, with the river running just steps from the property's edge. It is the sort of place that feels discovered rather than designed, though the interiors tell a more considered story.
The cottage accommodates guests in a layout that favors comfort and easy living. The open-concept main space brings the kitchen, dining, and living areas together under one roof, with large windows that pull the surrounding forest and riverbank into every sightline. The kitchen is fully equipped for home-style cooking, a genuine pleasure here where the nearest town is a short drive and evenings tend to settle in early. Bedrooms are warmly appointed, with enough space and privacy to make the cottage work for couples or small groups traveling together. The overall aesthetic leans into rustic warmth without sacrificing modern convenience, with clean finishes and comfortable furnishings throughout.
The outdoor spaces are where Riverside Cartecay Cottage earns its name and its reputation. A deck extends toward the river, offering direct access to the water and a vantage point that shifts with the seasons. In warmer months, the Cartecay is a destination for tubing, kayaking, and fly fishing. In autumn, the surrounding hardwoods turn the riverbanks into corridors of color. The property includes outdoor seating areas and a fire pit, creating natural gathering spots once the sun drops behind the ridgeline. The proximity to the river is not a marketing detail here. It is the entire experience.
The broader region offers its own rewards. The town of Ellijay, known for its apple orchards and small-town character, is nearby, and the surrounding mountains provide access to hiking trails, waterfalls, and scenic drives along winding two-lane roads. Local wineries and farm stands dot the area, giving guests reason to venture out, though the pull of the cottage and its riverside perch makes leaving entirely optional. Riverside Cartecay Cottage is not a place of grand gestures or curated programming. It is a place where mornings begin with coffee on the deck, afternoons unfold along the water, and evenings close around a fire with the river still murmuring just beyond the trees. The rhythm here is not something the property creates. It is something the river has always known.

What gets you here isn't the architecture or the design — it's the sound. The Cartecay River sets the rhythm of the whole stay, and the cottage seems built around that fact, with its wraparound deck and a lower patio fire pit positioned close enough to the water that the two elements — flame and current — feel like they're in quiet conversation. It's a place scaled for intimacy, not impression. Two bedrooms, a fireplace, a kitchen that's clearly been renovated with care rather than spectacle. The kind of property where you cook dinner, eat outside on the 180-degree deck, and realize you haven't checked your phone in hours. Ellijay is five miles away if you want it, but the river is right there if you don't.

Amazing. Sounds of the river, wonderful views. Quiet road. We loved it.
Just the two of us, but would still have had plenty of room for more adults.

This was the best location in Elijay! No only do you have access to a beautiful river you are minutes away from some of the best GA wineries, Hard Ciders, and best Apple Picking at BJ Reece. About 15-20 mins to downtown Elijay. 20 mins from AMICALOLA FALLS
STATE PARK & LODGE. Also at the end of the street is a tubing business on the same river (walking distance). A perfect house for couples. We didn’t use the fire pit, but coffee on the deck was lovely. Also a memorable moment wading in the river with my young son at the bottoms of the river access staircase as they created a little natural river pool with rocks and fallen tree to take a nice dip in the river and no worry from the current. Could drop in a tube down the river if you had a means to get a pick up closer to Elijay (will try next time). Also if you walked down the street the river is deeper for I bet some great river fishing. Would definitely return!

Beautiful home with very peaceful surroundings. Wish we could have stayed longer, but it made for a relaxing long weekend getaway for our family of 4. Daniel was proactively helpful with directions to the home to navigate around a detour. He was also very responsive. Thank you!
