Journey Rewards Earning Terms

Review the terms that apply to earning Journey Rewards points and related program benefits.
Last updated May 11, 2026

These Earning Terms supplement the Journey Rewards Loyalty Program Terms & Conditions and govern how Members earn Points across Alliance Partner categories and Nominated Partners, and across booking and transaction channels. Capitalized terms not defined here have the meanings given in the Loyalty Program Terms. In the event of conflict between these Earning Terms and the Loyalty Program Terms, the Loyalty Program Terms control with respect to general loyalty matters; these Earning Terms control with respect to channel-specific and partner-specific earning detail.

Journey may update these Earning Terms at any time, subject to the notice provisions in Section 15 of the Loyalty Program Terms.

1. Earning Structure Overview

Journey awards Points based on the channel through which a Member books or transacts and the category of Alliance Partner or Nominated Partner involved. The two foundational distinctions are:

Journey-Channel Activity means bookings and transactions initiated through (a) journey.com or (b) the official Journey mobile application. Earning for Journey-Channel Activity at Alliance Partners is contractual and subject to the minimum earn guarantee in Section 2.1.

Non-Journey-Channel Activity means bookings and transactions initiated through any other channel, including a direct booking on an Alliance Partner's own website, a phone reservation made directly with the Alliance Partner, an online travel agency, a third-party booking portal, or any other third-party channel. Earning for Non-Journey-Channel Activity, and all earning associated with Nominated Partners, is discretionary and funded by Journey as a customer-acquisition incentive, as further described in Section 6.

2. Alliance Hotels and Alliance Residences

2.1 Minimum Earn Guarantee for Journey-Channel Bookings. For Qualifying Stays at Alliance Hotels and Alliance Residences booked directly through journey.com or the official Journey mobile application, Members earn a minimum of five (5) Points per eligible US dollar spent on the initial booking amount (exclusive of taxes and fees), subject to the eligibility, exclusions, and timing rules below. Journey may award more than five (5) Points per eligible dollar at its discretion, including through multipliers, promotions, Status-tier bonuses, partner-specific elevated rates, and other mechanisms disclosed at the time of booking or at the time Points are posted.

2.2 Non-Journey-Channel Bookings. For Qualifying Stays at Alliance Hotels and Alliance Residences booked directly with the Alliance Partner (not through journey.com or the Journey mobile application), Journey may, in its sole discretion, award Points at a rate determined by Journey. No minimum earn rate is guaranteed for Non-Journey-Channel Activity, and Members have no contractual entitlement to such Points under these Terms.

2.3 OTA and Third-Party Bookings. Bookings made through online travel agencies (OTAs) and other third-party channels generally do not earn Points. Journey may, at its discretion and as a one-time incentive to encourage Program enrollment, award discretionary Points to a Member for a single OTA or third-party booking. Such discretionary awards do not create any obligation to award Points on future OTA or third-party bookings, are not advertised in advance, and are subject to revocation at any time.

2.4 Qualifying Stay Defined. A Qualifying Stay is one or more consecutive nights at a participating Alliance Hotel or Alliance Residence booked and paid under an eligible retail, Journey member, or negotiated rate. Non-Qualifying Rates do not earn Points or Status credit and include without limitation:

  • wholesale, tour-operator, and bedbank rates;
  • coupon, voucher, or promotional code rates not offered by Journey;
  • complimentary or staff/comp stays;
  • opaque OTA channels;
  • corporate, contracted, and consortia rates;
  • group rates and rates booked under group blocks;
  • travel-agent rates and FIT rates;
  • crew rates;
  • award stays (which are governed separately under Section 6 of the Loyalty Program Terms);
  • stays paid in full with vouchers, credits, or third-party currency rather than cash, points, or eligible payment cards;
  • stays where the Member is not the registered guest occupying the room (except as permitted under Section 5.10 of the Loyalty Program Terms);
  • chargeback, refunded, or reversed transactions; and
  • any other rate disclosed by Journey or the Alliance Partner as ineligible at the time of booking.

2.5 Eligible Spend at Alliance Hotels and Residences. In addition to room rate, the following on-property charges posted to the folio earn Points when booked under a Qualifying Stay: dining at on-property food and beverage outlets; spa treatments; on-property activities and experiences; parking; and other folio-posted incidentals designated as eligible by the property. Taxes, government fees, resort fees, third-party charges (including third-party tours booked through the property), gratuities, retail purchases, and gift cards generally do not earn Points.

2.6 Posting Timing. Points for Alliance Hotel and Residence stays are posted in accordance with the Alliance Partner's property management system or system of record. Posting generally occurs within forty-eight (48) hours of checkout and is validated within up to twenty-eight (28) days. Points are issued initially as Credit Points and convert to Cleared Points in accordance with Section 5A of the Loyalty Program Terms, with the following channel-specific timing:

  • Journey-channel, non-refundable bookings: Points on the initial booking amount (exclusive of taxes and fees) are issued as Cleared Points immediately upon booking. Points for on-property spend are issued as Credit Points upon transaction and convert to Cleared Points no earlier than forty-eight (48) hours after checkout, subject to PMS confirmation.
  • Journey-channel, refundable bookings: All Points are issued as Credit Points upon booking and convert to Cleared Points once the applicable cancellation or refund window has passed and the stay has been confirmed.
  • Non-Journey-channel bookings (where Journey awards Points): All Points are issued as Credit Points and convert to Cleared Points no earlier than forty-eight (48) hours after checkout, subject to PMS confirmation.

2.7 Cancellation, No-Show, and Refund. Credit Points associated with cancelled, no-show, refunded, or charged-back bookings are forfeited automatically. Cleared Points associated with a reversed transaction may be clawed back under Section 5.9 of the Loyalty Program Terms.

2.8 Multiple Rooms. A Member may earn on up to two additional rooms (total three) with the same check-in/out dates if the Member occupies one room and all rooms are booked under the Member's name.

3. Alliance Restaurants

3.1 Earning at Alliance Restaurants. Members earn Points on eligible spend at participating Alliance Restaurants. Earning rates may vary by restaurant, partner-specific arrangement, promotion, period, Member Status, and channel, and will be disclosed in the Journey application or at the point of transaction.

3.2 Eligible Spend. Eligible spend includes food and non-alcoholic beverages and, where the restaurant or regulations permits, alcoholic beverages, subject to applicable law. Taxes, gratuities, service charges, and third-party delivery or platform fees generally do not earn Points. Purchases made through third-party delivery platforms, third-party reservation platforms, gift cards, and stored-value cards do not earn Points unless expressly designated as eligible by Journey.

3.3 Attribution. Earning at Alliance Restaurants requires attribution of the transaction to the Member's Account. Attribution may occur through (a) booking or check-in via the Journey application; (b) presentation of a Journey identifier at the restaurant; (c) card-linking, where Journey enables it; or (d) other mechanisms Journey designates. Where attribution is not received or cannot be verified, no Points will be awarded.

3.4 Posting Timing. Points for Alliance Restaurant transactions are issued as Credit Points upon Journey's receipt of transaction data and convert to Cleared Points no earlier than forty-eight (48) hours after the transaction date, subject to validation.

3.5 Exclusions. The following are generally excluded from earning at Alliance Restaurants: private events and buy-outs; banquet, catering, and group functions; complimentary or hosted meals; transactions where the Member is not present; and transactions otherwise designated as ineligible.

4. Alliance Boutiques

4.1 Earning at Alliance Boutiques. Members earn Points on eligible net purchases (purchases minus returns, refunds, and discounts) at participating Alliance Boutiques. Earning rates may vary by boutique, category, promotion, period, Member Status, and channel, and will be disclosed in the Journey application or at the point of purchase.

4.2 Eligible Spend. Eligible spend generally includes goods purchased from the Alliance Boutique's owned inventory. Taxes, shipping and handling fees, gift cards, stored-value cards, third-party concession purchases, and special-order or consignment items generally do not earn Points unless expressly designated as eligible.

4.3 Attribution. Earning at Alliance Boutiques requires attribution of the transaction to the Member's Account, as further described in Section 3.3.

4.4 Posting Timing. Points for Alliance Boutique transactions are issued as Credit Points upon Journey's receipt of transaction data and convert to Cleared Points no earlier than forty-eight (48) hours after the transaction date, subject to validation.

4.5 Returns and Refunds. Points associated with returned, refunded, or charged-back purchases will be clawed back. If Cleared Points have already been redeemed and a return results in a negative balance, Section 5.9 of the Loyalty Program Terms applies.

5. General Rules Common to Alliance Partners (Sections 2–4)

5.1 Account in Good Standing. Earning at Alliance Partners requires an Account in Good Standing at the time of the qualifying activity and may require enrollment before booking.

5.2 Membership Identification. The Member must be identified to the Alliance Partner via the Journey application, a Journey member identifier, or another mechanism Journey designates, before or at the time of the qualifying activity. Retroactive attribution may be permitted within the missing-credit window in Section 5.11 of the Loyalty Program Terms.

5.3 No Combining with Non-Member Discounts (Where Designated). Certain rates or offers may be ineligible for earning when combined with other discounts, promotions, or third-party benefits, as disclosed at the time of the transaction.

5.4 Journey's Right to Issue No Points or More Points. Without limiting any other provision, Journey reserves the right to issue no Points or, at its discretion, more than the disclosed rate of Points for any Qualifying Activity at an Alliance Partner, including through multipliers, partner-specific elevated rates, Status-tier bonuses, and promotional campaigns.

6. Nominated Partners

6.1 Nature of Nominated Partner Earning. Nominated Partners are partners whose offerings appear in the Journey ecosystem under separate commercial arrangements with Journey. Earning at Nominated Partners is funded by Journey as a customer-acquisition incentive and is not a contractual obligation of the Program. Journey may, in its sole discretion, offer Members Points for transactions at Nominated Partners at rates ranging from one (1) Point per dollar to fixed-amount awards of up to ten thousand (10,000) Points or more, depending on the partner, promotion, period, and Member.

6.2 No Minimum Guarantee; No Entitlement. Journey makes no minimum-earn guarantee for Nominated Partner activity. No Member is entitled to Points for any Nominated Partner transaction under these Terms. Journey may award, decline to award, change, limit, or revoke Nominated Partner Points at any time, with or without notice.

6.3 Initial Amount Only. Where Points are awarded for Nominated Partner transactions, Points are calculated on the initial purchase amount only, exclusive of taxes, fees, gratuities, and any post-transaction add-ons.

6.4 Posting Timing. Points for Nominated Partner transactions follow the timing rules disclosed at the time of the offer. Where not otherwise disclosed, Points are issued as Credit Points and convert to Cleared Points no earlier than forty-eight (48) hours after the transaction date, subject to validation. For non-refundable Nominated Partner bookings made through journey.com or the official Journey mobile application, Section 5A.3 of the Loyalty Program Terms applies and Points on the initial amount are issued as Cleared Points immediately.

6.5 Channel Hierarchy for Nominated Partners. Journey's priority is to reward Members who book through journey.com and the official Journey mobile application first, who book directly with a Nominated Partner second, and who book through third-party channels last. Where Journey awards Points for third-party-channel bookings, such awards are one-time incentives to encourage Program enrollment, are not advertised in advance, and create no obligation to make similar awards in the future.

7. Bonus Points and Promotions

7.1 Bonus Points. Bonus Points are Points awarded outside the standard earning structure, including welcome bonuses, referral bonuses, status-tier achievement bonuses, recovery or goodwill bonuses, partner-sponsored campaign bonuses, sweepstakes or contest winnings, survey or marketing participation Points, and hybrid Cash + Points bonuses. Bonus Points do not count toward Status qualification (Section 4.2 of the Loyalty Program Terms) and may be subject to additional terms disclosed at the time of the offer.

7.2 Promotional Multipliers. Journey or Alliance Partners may offer promotional multipliers from time to time. The applicable multiplier for any transaction will be that disclosed at the time of the transaction. Where multiple multipliers could apply, Journey, in its sole discretion, determines which applies.

7.3 Targeted Offers. Journey may make targeted offers available to particular Members based on Status, spending pattern, geography, partnership history, or other factors. Targeted offers are non-transferable and intended solely for the Member to whom they are made.

8. Award Redemptions

8.1 Subject to Partner Confirmation. All award redemptions (including Timeless Stay, Suite Elevation, Pet Perks, fee waivers, and other partner-delivered awards) are subject to property or partner participation, availability, operational feasibility, and confirmation by the applicable Partner. A redemption is not final until the Partner confirms.

8.2 Award Cancellations. Property or partner cancellation, no-show, and early-departure rules apply to award redemptions. Late cancellation or no-show may result in property charges and/or partial or full forfeiture of Points at Journey's discretion.

8.3 Inventory and Date Exclusions. Certain inventory and dates may be excluded from award redemptions, as designated by the Partner.

9. Missing Credit, Adjustments, and Disputes

9.1 Missing Credit Claims. Submit missing-credit requests within twelve (12) months of the qualifying activity, with proof of payment, through the Journey support channel. Journey will investigate claims based on data received from the Alliance Partner's or Nominated Partner's system of record.

9.2 Adjustments. Journey may adjust Points up or down based on validation from the Partner's system of record, including for transactions that initially posted in error, were subsequently refunded or charged back, or were determined to be Non-Qualifying.

9.3 Disputes. Disputes regarding Points awarded under these Earning Terms are governed by Section 18 of the Loyalty Program Terms and Section 14 of the Website & App Terms.

10. Modifications to These Earning Terms

Journey may modify these Earning Terms at any time. Material modifications to earning structures at Alliance Partners are subject to the 45-day prior-notice obligation in Section 15.2 of the Loyalty Program Terms. Modifications to earning structures at Nominated Partners may be made without prior notice, consistent with the discretionary nature of Nominated Partner earning described in Section 6.
