Blue Iris occupies a classic Nantucket home on a residential street just steps from the cobblestoned center of town, the kind of place you might walk past before noticing the deep blue hydrangeas flanking the entrance and the understated signpost half-hidden by climbing roses. This is not a grand hotel and makes no effort to be one. It is a proper island inn, intimate in scale and personal in its hospitality, with the character of a well-loved home that happens to welcome guests with uncommon grace.
The property offers a small collection of individually appointed guest rooms, each designed with a mix of classic New England sensibility and layered textiles, fresh florals, and soft coastal palettes. Rooms feature fine linens, thoughtful amenities, and the kind of quiet comfort that invites long mornings under the covers. Common spaces feel residential rather than staged, with sitting areas that encourage a slower pace and a garden that rewards an afternoon with nothing particular planned. A generous breakfast is served each morning, setting the tone for the day with seasonal, home-prepared dishes that feel less like a hotel amenity and more like a meal at a friend's house on the island.
Nantucket itself unfolds easily from the inn's front door. The shops, galleries, and restaurants of town are within a short walk, and the island's beaches, lighthouses, and cycling paths stretch outward from there. The location allows you to step into the energy of downtown and retreat just as quickly to the quieter rhythm that Blue Iris keeps. This is an island that rewards those who slow down enough to notice the architecture, the light shifting over the harbor, and the particular quality of salt air that belongs only to this stretch of the Atlantic.
What stays with you about Blue Iris is not any single feature but the feeling of proportion. Everything here is scaled to the human, to the personal, to the unhurried. It is the kind of place where the innkeeper knows your name by morning, where breakfast conversation lingers, and where the island feels less like a destination and more like a place you've quietly been returning to for years.

What we love about this stay
Blue Iris feels like staying inside someone's deeply personal art collection — not a gallery, but a home where every piece was chosen with real affection for Nantucket's creative lineage. The coastal palette and Portuguese-inflected patterns give the interiors a layered, slightly unexpected identity that resists the usual New England nautical clichés. Each room carries its own artwork, its own quiet conversation with the island's history, which makes wandering between spaces feel genuinely curiosity-driven. The Le Labo products and Revival New York linens signal a specific kind of taste — considered, not showy. It's the kind of place that rewards people who notice texture and scent as much as scenery, and who want their surroundings to feel collected rather than decorated.

Perfect, charming stay We had an incredible stay at the Blue Iris! First, the location COULD not be better and absolutely made the trip. We also had trouble finding a room that would be comfortable for 3 people and this one was amazing, it had 2 comfortable beds AND two bathrooms. We really enjoyed the extra touches such as happy hour and breakfast, and access to the bikes. Definitely recommend! My only critical feedback: the staff was very kind but not able to answer some of our questions, and it would go a long way to have some light bites such as nuts or chips included in the happy hour as well.
