You arrive along a winding road that narrows through sixty acres of birch and balsam fir, the canopy thickening until the world beyond it disappears entirely. Hidden Pond reveals itself not as a single structure but as a collection of two-bedroom cottages scattered across the forest floor, each one shingled and stilted and set apart from the next with the kind of deliberate distance that makes solitude feel like a design principle. This is southern Maine's coastline, but you would never know it from the silence here. The ocean is minutes away. The trees are closer.
The cottages are built with reclaimed materials and outfitted with woodstoves, screened porches, and outdoor showers that open to nothing but forest. Interiors lean into a rustic New England vernacular, with wide plank floors, handcrafted furniture, and kitchenettes stocked for slow mornings. Some feature soaking tubs, private decks, and living spaces generous enough to feel more like a home than a hotel room. A heated pool sits among the trees, bordered by loungers and gardens, offering one of the few gathering points across the property. There is also a spa with treatment rooms, a fitness studio, and programming that shifts with the seasons, from outdoor yoga and guided hikes to art workshops and cooking classes led by visiting instructors.
Dining at Hidden Pond centers on Earth, a restaurant housed in a restored barn where the menu draws directly from the property's own gardens and nearby farms. Produce is harvested steps from the kitchen, and the cooking reflects that proximity with clean, ingredient-led plates that shift throughout the summer. A more casual lodge serves as the social heart of the property, with a bar, lounge seating, and a fire pit that pulls guests outside as evening settles in. The food here is not an afterthought or a supplement. It is deeply woven into the identity of the place, rooted in the same land that surrounds you.
Kennebunkport sits just a short drive away, with its harbor, galleries, and the kind of small-town New England charm that has drawn visitors for well over a century. The beaches at Goose Rocks and Kennebunk are close enough for a morning trip and quiet enough to feel undiscovered. But the rhythm of Hidden Pond tends to pull you inward rather than outward. Days here unfold without urgency, shaped by the temperature of the air, the light filtering through the canopy, and the particular quality of stillness that comes from being surrounded by forest on every side. It is a place where the landscape does most of the work, and the hospitality simply knows when to step aside.

What we love about this stay
There's a particular quality to a place where the air itself announces your arrival — that mix of salt and pine that tells you you've crossed into somewhere quieter, more intentional. Hidden Pond feels less like a resort and more like a private woodland compound where someone with very good taste decided every cottage should have a fireplace and every window should frame something green and alive. It's unhurried without being sleepy. The kitchen gardens where chefs pull herbs for dinner sit steps from where you might spend an evening by the fire pit, and the whole rhythm of the place gently collapses the distance between indulgence and the natural world. It's the kind of property that rewards people who don't need to be entertained — who find genuine pleasure in a bike ride past local galleries or an afternoon with nowhere particular to be. What stays with you isn't any single amenity but the accumulation of small, grounded details that remind you luxury can also feel rooted and real.

Exceptionnel cabins, great restaurant, quiet comfortable luxury. Was disappointed by the very high amour of packaging with their food served in plastic containers if you eat by the pool and for all in room dining meals, which is truly excessive and sad to see. I also wish there was a more attractive spa services with steam bath, hot and cold plunge.

Wonderful relaxing peaceful place to stay. Wonderful setting in lovely cabins. Rustic but high quality. So tranquil and relaxing. The shuttle to Tides beach club adds a beach experience . The restaurants at Earth and Tides are excellent but book well before you go!

Just what we need for a relaxing few days - we were completely taken care of from the space to food. It was very private, very quiet and relaxing. The rooms were set up for tranquility with an outdoor shower and a lush patio amidst the trees. I loved the bikes - easy ride to the beach and around property. The pool area was stunning as was the spa, and Earth was of course incredible. Even lunch at the pool was quite good. The staff truly go above and beyond to make your stay exceptional - for example they provide your preferred dairy with coffee delivered each morning. We had a half gallon of oat milk delivered each morning. They also left quite a special note and gifts given we were there on our honeymoon.
