The lobby arrives like a deep breath. Exposed brick, wide-plank floors, and tall windows pulling in light from the street create a space that feels simultaneously historic and entirely present. The Lincoln Hotel occupies a restored nineteenth-century building in the heart of Biddeford, Maine, a mill town undergoing a genuine creative renaissance along the banks of the Saco River. The architecture carries the weight of its industrial past without nostalgia. Instead, the design layers warm textures, contemporary furnishings, and curated art throughout, giving each floor a sense of intention that stops well short of preciousness.
Thirty-two rooms offer a range of configurations, from cozy queen rooms to more generous king suites, each outfitted with custom details that reflect the property's commitment to craft. Expect clean lines, muted palettes, locally sourced touches, and the kind of bedding that quietly announces itself the moment you sit down. Bathrooms are finished with care, featuring modern fixtures and locally made bath products. The overall effect is one of considered simplicity, where nothing competes for your attention and everything earns it.
Downstairs, the hotel's restaurant and bar serve as a genuine gathering point for both guests and locals. The menu draws on Maine's coastal larder and the agricultural richness of the surrounding region, with dishes that feel rooted rather than fussy. The bar program follows suit, favoring well-made cocktails, a thoughtful wine list, and local craft selections. It is the kind of place where a post-dinner drink stretches easily into a second, the room humming with the low energy of a town that has found its creative stride. A seasonal courtyard extends the social life of the hotel outdoors when the weather permits.
Biddeford itself is the hotel's most compelling amenity. A walkable downtown filled with independent shops, galleries, studios, and restaurants has emerged in recent years, all within steps of the hotel's front door. The Saco River and nearby coastline offer access to beaches, kayaking, and the broader rhythms of southern Maine. Portland sits just fifteen minutes to the north, but The Lincoln Hotel makes a strong case for staying put, for letting the slower pace and creative energy of Biddeford set the tempo of your visit.
What lingers after a stay here is the texture of the experience. Not grandeur, not spectacle, but the feeling of a place that knows exactly what it is and offers it without apology. The Lincoln Hotel is a property built on conviction rather than formula, and it rewards guests who appreciate the difference.

What we love about this stay
There's something quietly compelling about a hotel that doesn't try to compete with its surroundings but instead absorbs them. The Lincoln sits in the heart of Biddeford, close enough to the Atlantic that the salt air and the sound of gulls become part of the room itself — not as background noise, but as texture. The design leans modern without losing warmth, and the spaces feel considered rather than decorated, with generous windows that pull the coastal town inward. It's the kind of place that suits someone who wants proximity to Maine's rougher, more honest beauty without sacrificing comfort. The bar has an easy evening energy, and the restaurant takes New England flavors seriously enough to play with them. What lingers is the sense that this isn't a resort trying to manufacture an experience — it's a well-made place in a town worth knowing.

The Lincoln is an exceptional hotel by any standards. A hotel of this quality has no business being in a small town in Maine. Everything about the room was fantastic. The size. The amenities. The furnishings. Everything worked very well together. The spaces in the hotel were huge. We had dinner in the restaurant and it was excellent. We had drinks at the bar. They were excellent. I if you're planning on trips to Kennebunkport or Freeport, do yourself a favor and stay here!
