Hotel Figueroa announces itself the way the best Los Angeles buildings do: with a story older than the skyline around it. Built in 1926 as a women's clubhouse, the property carries nearly a century of reinvention within its Spanish Colonial walls. Wrought iron, terra-cotta tile, hand-painted murals, and deep archways set a mood that feels less like a conventional downtown hotel and more like a cultural artifact given new purpose. The lobby is warm and layered, rich with global textiles and jewel-toned furnishings that nod to the building's progressive origins and its long romance with the arts.
The 268 guest rooms and suites translate that same spirit into spaces that balance heritage character with contemporary comfort. Expect bold color, original artwork, and design details that resist the neutral minimalism of most urban hotels. Many rooms look out over the surrounding cityscape, and the building's iconic coffered ceilings and arched windows remain defining features throughout the property. It is a hotel that wears its history openly rather than smoothing it away.
At the center of the property, a heated outdoor pool surrounded by towering palms and cabanas offers a rare pause in the middle of one of the densest neighborhoods in the city. The pool deck at Hotel Figueroa has become something of a local landmark in its own right, a place where the energy of Los Angeles softens into something slower and more sociable. On-site dining and drinking options extend the atmosphere further. Veranda serves a menu rooted in Mediterranean and Californian influences in a lush courtyard setting, while Bar Alta provides cocktails against a backdrop of murals and moody lighting. The rooftop bar offers panoramic views and a vantage point that makes the scale of the surrounding city feel cinematic rather than overwhelming.
Location is inseparable from the property's identity. Sitting directly across from Crypto.com Arena and the Los Angeles Convention Center, Hotel Figueroa occupies one of the most charged intersections in the city, where sports, music, and culture converge on any given night. The Arts District, Grand Central Market, and the museums of Bunker Hill are all within easy reach, and the hotel has long served as a gathering point before and after the events that define the cultural rhythm of downtown LA.
What stays with you is the particular warmth of the place, the sense that this is a building that has always welcomed people who see Los Angeles as something more than surface. Hotel Figueroa doesn't compete with the city's newer, sleeker openings. It predates them, outlasts them, and continues to feel like a destination that belongs only to this corner of this particular city.

What we love about this stay
There's something disorienting — in the best way — about stepping off a downtown Los Angeles sidewalk and into a space that feels this rooted in another time and temperament. The Spanish architecture isn't decorative shorthand here; it's structural, present in every arched doorway and hand-painted tile, giving the property a character that feels earned rather than curated. The pool sits at the center of it all, quiet and unexpected against the density of the city just beyond the walls. You're steps from LA Live and the arena district, but inside, the mood belongs to somewhere slower, more layered. It's a place that rewards people who like contrast — the hum of a major city paired with gardens and water and earthy, tactile interiors that actually invite you to settle in.

The decor and effort for calm made this space a relax zone. Tranquil just such an enjoyable design space to be in. Loved the pool setting against the juxtaposition of the tall buildings around it. Bedroom was on the small side but did not impact our enjoyment one jot. Hotel well positioned for our travels.
