The road narrows as it stretches east, passing farmstands and salt-weathered fences until the land runs out of continent. Here, where Star Island and Lake Montauk open to the Atlantic, Montauk Yacht Club occupies a position that feels both earned and inevitable. The property sits directly on the marina, its low-slung architecture oriented toward the water in every direction. Boats rock gently in their slips. The light has that particular end-of-the-island quality, bright and diffused by the surrounding sea. Arriving here, you sense the accumulated decades of a place that has always understood what it means to be at the very tip of Long Island.
The 107 rooms and suites are designed with a coastal clarity that favors clean lines, natural textures, and generous windows framing views of the marina, the pool, or the surrounding grounds. Many accommodations open to private balconies or patios, giving you an uninterrupted sightline to the water. The palette draws from the landscape itself, soft neutrals, weathered wood tones, and accents that nod to the nautical without becoming thematic. Villa-style accommodations offer additional space and privacy for longer stays or families seeking room to spread out. Throughout, the design feels considered but never overwrought, a property that lets its setting do the heavy lifting.
Days here orient around the water and the outdoors. The resort's pool complex serves as a central gathering point, with loungers arranged around an expansive heated pool overlooking the marina. The on-site restaurant offers seafood-forward dining with waterfront views, a natural extension of the harbor setting. Beyond the property's own shores, the full-service marina accommodates everything from deep-sea fishing charters to sunset cruises, placing you at the center of Montauk's maritime culture. A fitness center and seasonal programming round out the on-property experience, while the beach is a short trip away for those drawn to the open Atlantic surf.
Montauk itself has evolved over the years, but its character remains rooted in a specific kind of coastal independence. The town's fishing heritage still defines its rhythm. Ditch Plains draws surfers. The Montauk Point Lighthouse stands as the easternmost point in New York State. Farm-to-table restaurants and roadside lobster shacks coexist with a newer wave of design-minded shops and galleries. Montauk Yacht Club sits comfortably within this landscape, close enough to the village to access its energy but set apart on the marina, buffered by water on nearly every side.
What stays with you is the particular stillness of the harbor at dusk, the way the property seems to settle into itself as the boats return and the sky turns amber over Lake Montauk. It is a place where the pace of your day is set by tide and light, where the proximity to the Atlantic is not a backdrop but the entire point.

What we love about this stay
There's something about arriving on Star Island that shifts your internal register — the lake, the docks, the quiet remove from the rest of Montauk's energy. This is a property that leans into its maritime identity without overdoing it, where nautical references in the design feel earned by the setting rather than applied for effect. Private balconies face the lake or the grounds, and three pools give the place a sprawl that never feels crowded, just unhurried. The dining spans from Showfish's seafood focus to Il Forno's Italian warmth, grounded in local ingredients rather than spectacle. It's a place that suits people who want Montauk's landscape without its noise — the kind of stay where the water is always close, and the mood stays quietly, genuinely generous.

Property was great only issue was they double charged me and they suggested I use 2 rooms instead of refunding me. Eventually my card company got it back. Other than that great stay.

Lovely hotel a short drive from Montauk. Front desk were friendly. We took the 45 min free boat ride with Captain Jack and he was excellent- very informative and personable. Highlight of the stay. The restaurant was excellent as well. The angry lobster was one of the best dishes! Very clean and well appointed rooms. Great view of the water. Only advice would be to have someone servicing the beach area for towels and more space around the adult pool. Lady in the gift shop was not friendly and very rude but the store was well curated. Luggage bellman was very friendly as well
