Ocean Key Resort & Spa occupies a singular piece of Key West real estate, positioned directly at the foot of Duval Street where the island's most storied corridor meets the waterfront at Mallory Square. The building wraps around Zero Duval Street with an immediacy to the harbor that makes the Gulf of Mexico feel less like a backdrop and more like a room you haven't entered yet. Bright, tropical architecture gives way to interiors that carry the warmth of the island without over-performing it, balancing coastal ease with the kind of finish that belongs to a property conscious of its address.
Accommodations range from spacious guest rooms to two-bedroom suites, many featuring private balconies that open directly over the water. The views here are not distant or abstract. Sailboats, the setting sun, and the nightly gathering of crowds at Mallory Square for the famous sunset celebration all unfold just below. Rooms are designed with a palette that pulls from the surrounding seascape, layering soft blues, warm woods, and natural textures in a way that reads as relaxed rather than themed.
Hot Tin Roof, the resort's signature restaurant, sits perched above the harbor with open-air seating that places guests directly in the path of the Gulf breeze. The menu draws on island flavors and fresh seafood, and the setting transforms as the sun drops, shifting from a lively lunch destination to a more atmospheric evening affair. Sunset Pier, the resort's waterfront bar, is arguably one of Key West's most coveted spots for an evening drink. Set right on the water at the edge of Mallory Square, it draws both hotel guests and locals who come for the cocktails and the unobstructed view of the sun meeting the horizon. SpaTerre offers treatments inspired by the tropics, providing a quieter counterpoint to the energy of the public spaces. The resort's pool, while intimate in scale, benefits from its elevated position overlooking the harbor, giving swimmers the feeling of floating above the waterline.
Key West is a place that resists formality, and the resort leans into that spirit without abandoning its own sense of occasion. The location at Mallory Square places guests at the center of the island's cultural pulse, steps from galleries, restaurants, and the Hemingway-era architecture that defines Old Town. Yet the property itself maintains a boundary between the liveliness of Duval and the calm of a resort that knows when to quiet down. Ocean Key Resort & Spa is the kind of place where the day organizes itself around the water and the light, where the rhythm of the island sets the pace, and where the best seat in the house is always the one facing west.

What we love about this stay
There's something about a hotel that sits right at the edge of the Gulf of Mexico and leans into it completely — where salt air drifts through your room and the water feels less like a backdrop than a companion. Ocean Key lives in that particular Key West register where indulgence doesn't try too hard: waterfront dining at Hot Tin Roof feels like a natural extension of the evening rather than an event, and Sunset Pier captures that end-of-day energy the town is famous for without overproducing it. The spa draws on rituals that feel intentionally eclectic, and rooms with spa baths offer a private counterpoint to the lively energy downstairs. It's a place that suits people who want Key West's warmth and color without sacrificing a sense of calm — the kind of stay where the line between adventure and rest blurs pleasantly.

Ocean Key was absolutely perfect for our first visit to Key West! The room was spacious and clean and we enjoyed being able to walk to everything. Couldn't ask for more really.

I was a little reserved staying so close to Duval St with kids. But this was wonderful, we only got woken up by Roosters, not loud downtown party noises. It’s right next to Mallory square and the sunset celebration. We could quickly walk downtown key west for food snacks and souvenirs. Overall a great stay.
