The approach to Raya Heritage is itself a kind of threshold. You leave the energy of Chiang Mai behind and follow the Mae Ping River south, where the landscape opens into rice paddies and riverside farmland that feels untouched by the city's pulse. The property appears slowly, a collection of low-slung wooden structures arranged along the riverbank with the patient geometry of a traditional Lanna homestead. Teak, dark and warm, anchors the architecture. Pitched rooflines echo the forms of northern Thai granaries and farmhouses, reimagined here with clean lines and generous proportions. Every building faces the river, and the grounds themselves feel like an extension of the surrounding agricultural landscape, threaded with walking paths, herb gardens, and mature trees that shade the property in green stillness.
Raya Heritage offers 33 rooms and suites, each built from natural materials and designed to frame the river as the central presence. Interiors balance traditional craft with understated comfort. Handwoven textiles, clay vessels, and locally sourced wood sit alongside deep soaking tubs and private terraces that open directly onto the water. The scale remains intimate, and the architecture maintains a connection to the ground, rarely rising above one or two stories. Hammocks and daybeds on personal balconies invite long afternoons spent watching longtail boats drift past. A riverside pool stretches along the bank, its edge dissolving into views of the opposite shore, where coconut palms and banana groves mark the rural character of the land.
Dining at the property draws directly from the surrounding terroir. The restaurant, positioned on the river's edge, serves northern Thai and Lanna-inspired cuisine built around ingredients grown in the hotel's own organic gardens and sourced from nearby farms. Meals unfold slowly here, shaped by the seasons and rooted in recipes that trace generations of local culinary knowledge. Cooking classes invite guests into the process, from market visits to mortar and pestle preparation. Beyond the table, the property offers cycling routes through neighboring villages, traditional rice planting experiences, and boat journeys along the Ping that connect guests to the rhythms of life along the water. A wellness program draws on Thai massage traditions, and treatments take place in open-air pavilions where the sound of the river replaces any need for a curated playlist.
The surrounding countryside south of Chiang Mai offers a quieter, more agrarian perspective on northern Thailand. Ancient temples, weekend markets, and artisan workshops are all within reach, but the property's own grounds often become the destination in themselves. Raya Heritage is not a resort that asks you to fill your days. It is a place calibrated to slow time, where the river sets the pace and the architecture holds you gently at its edge. You leave not with a list of things accomplished, but with the particular calm that comes from days shaped by water, wood, and the unhurried generosity of Lanna hospitality.

What we love about this stay
What stays with you here isn't the luxury itself but the quiet conviction behind it — a boutique property on the banks of the Ping River that feels genuinely rooted in Lanna culture rather than merely decorated by it. The handcrafted details in the rooms carry a rustic warmth that resists the sleek sameness of most contemporary hotels, and the gardens are tended with a care that suggests someone here actually loves plants, not just aesthetics. Khu Khao's kitchen leans into Northern Thai flavors with real intention, and eating there as evening settles in feels unhurried and grounded. This is a place for travelers who want Chiang Mai to seep in slowly, not be consumed on a checklist.

During our recent visit to Chiang Mai with the family, we had the opportunity to spend a couple of days at this wonderful hotel. Undoubtedly, it is one of the places we will remember for a long time. Its location in front of the river, the tranquility, the architecture, and the design of the spaces make it a memorable place. Moreover, the management's efforts to make this establishment a sustainable tourism destination, contributing to the improvement of the environment and the community, are worth highlighting. But above all, I must highlight the level of service, as well as the gastronomic experience, full of local and organic options. Just the breakfast is worth staying a few days. I can only say that it was a pity not to be able to spend more time there, enjoying all the facilities.

The staff were all very kind. When my husband commented that the caramel coconut snacks were very tasty, First surprised us later that evening with a small packet that she’d gotten from a nearby shop. Goy and Niew also spent much time to help me with my LINE app which wasn’t working well. I had nice chat with several of them who taught me some new Thai words during my stay. Thank you for your time. Housekeeping team made a small bouquet of flowers from Pandan leaves for our turndown. Very beautifully done! The restaurant service was attentive. Pla informed us beforehand about the expected crowd between 9-10am for the following day’s breakfast. We took his advice and went earlier at about 815am. True to his point, the restaurant started filling up with an arrival group at 9.05pm and we were glad to avoid the busy period. One other thing we were impressed with is how driver Toh - during shuttle service - made effort to point out the local market and the local girls school to provide guests with some further information. Even though English is not his first language, he made very good effort to enhance the guest experience with his brief explanation. When we reached the destination and he came to help guests get off the van, he bade each of us (four guests in total) by our individual names. We could hear that the other couple was very impressed by this too. Ps: do try the spa. The therapists’ techniques are really good!

Wonderful spas/hotel on the outskirts of Changi. The staff was extremely friendly. With a very nice view of the river. The hotel is beautiful. And the rooms are spacious. The staff does a great job with English.Rita bartender/server. Was amazing. She really made our stay enjoyable. If we get back to this part of Thailand, we will definitely stay here again. The only thing I would do to enhance the experience. Would be to add a hotel Shuttle going to the mall and the night market.
