The lobby is on the 28th floor. That single detail reframes everything about Shangri-La Tokyo. You arrive at street level beside Tokyo Station, one of the most kinetic transit hubs in the world, step into an elevator, and ascend into a stillness that feels almost improbable. When the doors open, floor-to-ceiling windows reveal a panorama that stretches from the Imperial Palace gardens to Tokyo Bay, the dense geometry of Marunouchi and Ginza layered beneath you. The interiors draw on a palette of warm golds, creams, and polished stone, a design language that reads as restrained opulence rather than spectacle. Crystal chandeliers catch light against silk-paneled walls. The scale is intimate for a property of this stature, with just 200 rooms and suites occupying floors 28 through 37, ensuring that every guest room sits well above the city's rooftline.
Accommodations are generous by Tokyo standards, with even the entry-level Deluxe rooms offering expansive views through large windows. Marble bathrooms, deep soaking tubs, and refined touches like Japanese tea sets ground the experience in its setting. The higher-floor suites open up further, with separate living areas and sweeping corner perspectives that track the city from the Sumida River to the towers of Shinjuku. Throughout, the detailing is considered without being ostentatious, a quality that distinguishes the property from the more maximalist expressions of luxury found elsewhere in the capital.
Dining spans several distinct experiences. The Lobby Lounge on the 28th floor serves as the property's social anchor, a place for afternoon tea framed by that signature panorama. Piacere offers Italian cuisine with seasonal Japanese ingredients, while Nadaman presents traditional kaiseki in a setting that honors the form's centuries-old precision. The hotel's Chi Spa occupies a tranquil space where treatments blend Eastern and Western wellness traditions, with a heated indoor pool, jacuzzi, and fitness center providing a full complement of physical offerings. The pool area, set against those same elevated views, is one of the more striking urban wellness spaces in Tokyo.
The location is quietly strategic. Tokyo Station places you within minutes of Ginza's galleries and department stores, the tree-lined paths surrounding the Imperial Palace, and the business corridors of Marunouchi and Otemachi. The Shinkansen bullet train network fans out from directly below, connecting you to Kyoto, Osaka, and beyond without a single transfer. Yet for all its connectivity, Shangri-La Tokyo maintains a sense of remove. The elevation creates a boundary between the velocity of the streets and the measured calm of the upper floors. What lingers is the contrast itself, the way a city this restless can feel so still from 37 stories above it.

What we love about this stay
There's something disorienting — in the best way — about stepping out of the controlled chaos of Tokyo Station and ascending into this kind of quiet. The Shangri-La sits right above the city's busiest transit hub, yet the moment you arrive, the noise falls away entirely. That contrast is the whole point. The views do the heavy lifting here: panoramic windows frame the Imperial Palace gardens on one side, Tokyo Sky Tree on another, and on clear days, Mount Fuji in the distance. It's a hotel that lets Tokyo perform for you from a slight remove. The Horizon Club Lounge adds a genuine sense of belonging — less a perk, more a living room where the city feels close but unhurried. This is a place for the traveler who wants Tokyo at full intensity but needs somewhere truly still to return to.

This is such a convenient hotel to stay at since it is right next to Tokyo Station. You are able to take a train straight to Narita Airport. The hotel is a bit pricy but because it’s a fancy hotel with great staff who go out of their way. The rooms themselves are also great and the view on either side is also wonderful. If you are on the garden view side, the only negative thing I can think of is that you will hear the train but it’s nothing you can’t ignore since it’s not too loud. I haven’t tried their food but I can imagine it is great as well. I will have to try next time
