The turquoise facade catches your eye before anything else. Rising along Ocean Avenue with the Pacific as its backdrop, The Georgian Santa Monica has stood at this address since 1933, its Art Deco silhouette one of the most recognizable on the Southern California coast. The building's original architectural details have been preserved with uncommon care: ornamental moldings, arched windows, and a color palette that feels as much Mediterranean as Californian. Stepping inside, the mood shifts from the bright energy of the beachside boulevard to something more intimate and composed, a lobby where period character meets contemporary comfort without either conceding ground.
The hotel's 84 guest rooms and suites carry the building's vintage personality forward with updated furnishings and coastal light that pours through generous windows. Many rooms face the ocean, framing views of the Santa Monica Pier and the wide arc of the bay. The design leans into the property's heritage rather than away from it, favoring warm tones, textured fabrics, and thoughtful appointments that honor the building's nearly century-long history. Suites offer more generous proportions for longer stays, and throughout the property there is a sense that every surface has been considered without being overthought.
Downstairs, the hotel's restaurant and bar anchor the social life of the property. The dining room serves a menu rooted in California cuisine with Italian influences, emphasizing seasonal ingredients and an approachable sensibility that suits the setting. The bar, with its jewel-toned interiors and vintage atmosphere, draws both hotel guests and locals and has become a destination in its own right along Ocean Avenue. Whether you settle in for a proper dinner or a late-afternoon cocktail, the food and drink program reinforces the hotel's identity as a place that belongs to its neighborhood as much as to its guests.
Location here is not incidental. The Georgian sits at the threshold of Santa Monica's most walkable stretch, steps from Palisades Park, the bluffs, the pier, and the wide sand beach below. Third Street Promenade and the restaurants and galleries of downtown Santa Monica are within easy reach on foot. The hotel's position along Ocean Avenue places you at the meeting point of city and coast, close enough to feel the pulse of Los Angeles but removed enough to hear the ocean.
What lingers about The Georgian is the rarity of the thing itself: a pre-war landmark on a coastline that has largely reinvented itself many times over, still standing, still beautiful, still very much alive. You leave not with the memory of a hotel stay, but of a building that has outlasted trends and earned its place on the shore.

What we love about this stay
The Georgian feels like it belongs to a Santa Monica that existed before everything got so curated—and yet someone has clearly curated it with real intention. There's a literary, slightly cinematic quality to the place, the kind of hotel where a Writer's Room and a Library Room aren't gimmicks but genuine extensions of personality. You sense it in the details that lean analog: Victrola record players in the suites, vinyl collections from Ubiquity Records, the quiet suggestion that slowing down is the point. It's not trying to be everything to everyone, which is exactly what makes it feel like something. The sort of stay that lingers in your thinking long after you've left the coast.

The Georgian is stylish in a cool and fun way, and it carries to the rooms, too. Great food, perfect location. But the SERVICE surpassed every other amazing thing about the hotel. From the valet, to the front desk, waitstaff to the housekeepers - every one of them was welcoming, charming and helpful. We had the very best time.

The staff was wonderful. While the hotel is beautiful, the friendly staff makes it great. The location is perfect for staying in Santa Monica. The rooms are very quiet.
