The LINE Austin rises along the shore of Town Lake, a design hotel built into the fabric of a city that has always resisted easy definition. The building itself makes a statement before you step inside, its bold geometry framing wide views of the water and the downtown skyline beyond. Interiors draw from Austin's layered creative identity, mixing natural materials, warm tones, and contemporary art with a sense of informality that feels native to the city. Floor-to-ceiling windows pull the landscape indoors, and the overall atmosphere strikes a balance between metropolitan energy and the slower rhythm of life along the lake.
Rooms and suites carry the same design ethos throughout, with clean lines, custom furnishings, and expansive windows that open onto views of the water or the city. The palette stays grounded in earthy neutrals, and the layouts feel generous and uncluttered. Many rooms orient themselves toward the lake, letting the changing light and the movement of kayakers and paddleboarders become a kind of ambient backdrop to the stay. It is a hotel that understands Austin's relationship with the outdoors and builds that connection into every sightline.
Dining at The LINE is anchored by Arlo Grey, a restaurant helmed by Top Chef winner Kristen Kish, where Italian-American comfort food is interpreted through a refined but approachable lens. The menu draws on seasonal Texas ingredients and the lakeside setting lends a particular warmth to evening meals. Beyond the restaurant, the hotel's lobby and public spaces function as gathering points that blur the line between guest and local, a quality that feels intentional and deeply Austinian. A pool deck overlooks the lake, offering a place to settle in during long afternoons, while the hotel's event and meeting spaces host everything from intimate gatherings to larger celebrations with views of the water.
The hotel's position on Town Lake places you within walking distance of the hike-and-bike trail, South Congress Avenue, and the live music venues and independent shops that define Austin's cultural landscape. The surrounding neighborhood pulses with the kind of creative entrepreneurialism the city is known for, from food trucks to galleries to dive bars with world-class musicians on the bill. The LINE sits comfortably within all of it, neither apart from the city nor trying too hard to belong.
What stays with you after a visit to The LINE Austin is the feeling of being genuinely connected to the city rather than insulated from it. This is a hotel that functions as a portal into Austin's particular frequency, a place where the energy of a fast-evolving city meets the calming presence of water and open sky. It does not ask you to slow down or speed up. It simply meets you where you are.

What we love about this stay
There's a particular kind of hotel that doesn't just sit in a city but actually absorbs it, and that's what's happening here. The mid-century bones feel deliberate rather than decorative, a framework for Austin's art and texture to fill in the gaps. You notice it in the lobby, where the design choices read less like a mood board and more like a point of view — bold art, rich materials, an atmosphere that borrows from the city without trying to replicate it. The rooftop pool operates as a genuine social space after dark, which feels right for a property this connected to Austin's restless energy. It's a place for people who want to be inside the city's rhythm, not observing it from a remove.

Great service from the front desk to the pool bartenders. There is some wear and tear in the rooms from time, but it’s not impactful to the quality of the room. What I loved was it always felt cool- almost cold- when you walked into the room. Great location to restaurants and bars. Pool was fantastic- looks smaller, but truly plenty of room!

The Line is a little dated but has the charm of a boutique hotel. The staff was amazing and communicated very well. The location was the best it could be for walkability for downtown and nightlife, right on the river for recreation and you can see the bats leave the bridge from the hotel.

The LINE is one of my favorite Austin hotels to date. I have gone to ACL every year for the last 10 or 11 years (except Covid which ones of course). It’s a convent walk to Zilker and downtown, fabulous service and great accommodations.
